308. Savior Divine, Whose Name We Know

C.M.
by P. Doddridge
1
Savior divine, whose name we know,

In whom alone we trust,

Thou art the Lord our Righteousness,

Thou art Thy people’s boast.
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
“And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” (Psalm 9:10)
“In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” (Jeremiah 23:6)
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1:30)
2
The guilty soul, by sin defiled,

The conscience sore oppressed,

In Thee believing stands approved,

And finds abiding rest.
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12)
“Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.” (Titus 1:15)
“Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household.” (Romans 16:10)
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

To Thee, our great redeeming Lord,

What lasting thanks we owe,

For raising sinners to such joys

From depths of endless woe.
“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14)
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” (Revelation 5:9)
“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:2-3)
