A New Year's Appeal.

WE are just on the threshold of another year, and we feel constrained to lift a warning voice to those who are still unsaved.
Time is quickly passing on. Dear reader, pause and think one brief moment; consider where you are going. We beseech you to decide for Christ now. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:22(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) (2 Corinthians 6:2)). Leave it not till tomorrow, for “we know not what a day may bring forth” (Prov. 27:11Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. (Proverbs 27:1)). The Lord Jesus Christ might come, then you, if unsaved, would be left behind. Oh! awful thought — too late! too late! Or you might die, and what then? “After death; the judgment” (Heb. 9:2727And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)).
Have you not one thought for the One who has done so much for you?
Does your business and your pleasure take up all your time? Have you no room for Jesus?
Again we solemnly ask you to pause and think.
The Lord Jesus will not plead forever, soon the day of grace will be ended. He says by the mouth of His servant Paul — “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Rom. 10:99That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)).
In time of deep distress and sorrow the Christian has One to turn to who will not only pity as a father (“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him,” Psalms 103:1313Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. (Psalm 103:13)), but comfort as a mother (“As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you,” Isaiah 66:1313As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. (Isaiah 66:13)).
None can help as He helps. No one can love as He loves.
“Earthly friends may fail or leave us,
One day soothe, the next day grieve us,
But this Friend will ne’er deceive us,
Oh how He loves!”
“He that rejecteth Me, and receiveth not My words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.”
