147. And Did the Holy and the Just | C.M. |
|
|
| | |
|
| 1 | And did the Holy and the Just, |
| The Sovereign of the skies, |
| Stoop down to man's estate and dust |
| That guilty worms might rise? |
|
| 2 | Yes, the Redeemer left the throne, |
| The radiant throne on high; |
| Surprising mercy! love unknown! |
| To suffer, bleed and die. |
|
| 3 | He took the guilty culprit's place, |
| And suffered in his stead; |
| For man! (Oh miracle of grace!) |
| For man the Saviour bled. |
|
| 4 | Jesus, my soul adoring bends |
| To love, so full, so free; |
| Thy Word declares that love extends, |
| In saving power, to me. |
