¹Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. (Isaiah 46:1); Acts 21:15¹⁵And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem. (Acts 21:15)).

This does not appear to be ever used in the scriptures in the modern sense of the word, but signifies “the thing carried,” “baggage” (Judg. 18:21²¹So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the carriage before them. (Judges 18:21); 1 Sam. 17:22²²And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren. (1 Samuel 17:22); Isa. 10:28²⁸He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages: (Isaiah 10:28); Acts 21:15¹⁵And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem. (Acts 21:15)). The meaning in Isaiah 46:1¹Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. (Isaiah 46:1) is probably that the idols which were once “carried” with joy in festal processions (compare Amos 5:26²⁶But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves. (Amos 5:26)) are now “lifted up as loads” to be carried on beasts of burden.
