We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.1
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.2 – Here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.3 – I am the Lord, I change not.4 – Our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.5 – The creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope.6
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.7 – Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.8

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.1 – Forasmuch … as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.2 – And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them.3 – I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.4
Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.5

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.1 – I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.2
Woe is me! for I am undone; … mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: and he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.3 – I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.4
If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.5

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.1
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit.2 – After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.3
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.4 – Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.5
We walk by faith, not by sight.6 – Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.7

Thou … hast made us unto our God kings and priests.1 – The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance forever throughout your generations. And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the Lord your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.2
I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain.3 – Their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.4 – The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.5 – Pray one for another, … The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.6
Come, Lord Jesus.7 – Make no tarrying, O my God.8 – Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.9

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.1 – Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.2
Being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.3 – Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.4 – For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.5 – The cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?6
The Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.7 – My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.8 – Mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth.9

It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!1 – Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.2 – Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?3 – Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross.4 – Of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, … to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.5
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.6

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.1 – Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity.2 – In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.3 – Your life is hid with Christ in God.4
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.5
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.6

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.1 – As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.2
The Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: … shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.3
Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.4 – He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once.5
If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.6

A just God and a Savior.1
The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honorable.2
God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them.3 – Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.4 – He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.5 – Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.6 – To him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.7
