254. Death and Judgment Are Behind Us

8,7.
by Mrs. J.A. Trench
1
Death and judgment are behind us,

Grace and glory are before;

All the billows rolled o’er Jesus,

There they spent their utmost power.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” (John 5:24)
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)
“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” (Psalm 42:7)
2
"Firstfruits" of the resurrection,

He is risen from the tomb;

Now we stand in new creation,

Free, because beyond our doom.
“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” (1 Corinthians 15:20)
“Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.” (Luke 24:34)
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Jesus died, and we died with Him,

"Buried" in His grave we lay,

One with Him in resurrection,

Now "in Him" in heaven’s bright day.
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.” (Romans 6:4-8)
