(1) Conqueror of Argob and part of Gilead (Nun. 32:41; Deut. 3:14¹⁴Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day. (Deuteronomy 3:14)). 1. Son of Segub, a descendant of Judah but called “son of Manasseh” from his mother the daughter of Machir. He is also called one of “the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.” He conquered the territory of Argob with some towns, which he called HAVOTH-JAIR, “the towns of Jair” (Num. 32:41⁴¹And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair. (Numbers 32:41); Deut. 3:14¹⁴Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, unto this day. He is called JAARE-OREGIM in 2 Samuel 21:19¹⁹And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. (2 Samuel 21:19).
