CH 19:13{Here Joab finds a double army "set against him before and behind." He makes the wisest arrangements he can think of, and encourages his brother; and then he says, "... And let the Lord do that which is good in His sight." And what the Lord did was to give him a splendid victory. It does not seem that he had to fight or suffer any loss at all; the Syrians and Ammonites simply fled before him (verses 15-16). "And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem. And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river." Did not these things happen unto them for ensamples? If he, in the dim old days of type and veil, could so trust the God of Israel, should we, who have the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ, hesitate to utter the same expression of submissive confidence?
Do what Thou wilt! Yes, only do what seemeth good to Thee:
Thou art so loving, wise, and true, it must be best for me.
Send what Thou wilt; or beating shower, soft dew, or brilliant sun;
Alike in still or stormy hour, my Lord, Thy will be done.
