His habitations on earth, however, are but the anticipations of His perfected house in the eternal state--- of that temple which is even now silently growing, as stone after stone is laid in their appointed place upon the living Foundation, and which, when completed, will, after the close of all earthly dispensations, become His tabernacle throughout eternity.

“And she [Bathsheba] bare a son, and he [David] called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him” (2 Samuel 12:24).

“And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in all the statutes of David his father” (1 Kings 3:3).

“We love Him, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

It is beautiful to see that the Lord speaks of His love to Solomon as soon as he was born. If you read the next verse in 2 Samuel 12, you will see that the Lord actually sent Nathan the prophet, who also called Solomon by another name—Jedidiah, which means “beloved of the Lord.” This does not mean that the Lord has special favorites among His people, but He did have His eye on Solomon, as the one who was to take the throne of Israel after David.

As a result, we see Solomon as a mature individual, having ascended the throne of Israel, spoken about as loving the Lord, and walking in obedience to the law that his father David had walked in. This is because he had enjoyed the Lord’s love for him, and then his own heart responded to the Lord’s love by loving the Lord in return.

An older brother used to remind us, “Never try to love the Lord more than you do! Just think of how much He loves you!” If we enjoy His love, our love will flow back to Him without any effort.

Growing in Grace
“We know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth [struggles] in pain together until now” (Romans 8:22).
We live in a world of suffering. It has been that way ever since Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, and brought sin into this world. Suffering and eventual death come to everything that lives in this world, whether man, animals, or plants. Sometimes people ask why it has to be this way, and why God allows such suffering. Does He not care? Those who do not want to believe in God may use suffering to dare to criticize God. They ask, “If He is truly God, why does He not do something about the suffering in this world?” Maybe you have heard this question, and do not know how to answer it.
It is true that God did not have to allow sin to enter this world. He could have kept Adam and Eve from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If God had done this, you and I would be enjoying the Garden of Eden today. But we would never have known the depths of love in the heart of God, and that He loved us enough to send His Son to die for us. We would never have been able to spend eternity in the Father’s house; we would be living for all eternity here on earth. We would never have been brought into a relationship with God as our Father, or be the bride of Christ. We know all this, and enjoy all this, because the love of God has been shown out when sin entered this world.
Also, God has in His purposes to exalt and glorify His beloved Son. In His counsels in a past eternity, He purposed to have the Lord Jesus be Head over all things, both on earth and in heaven. God has been more glorified, and we have been far more blessed, than if sin had never entered this world.
Yes, there is still suffering here, and sometimes severe suffering. However, the suffering is temporary, and it will soon cease. When the Lord Jesus takes His rightful place, and the judgment is over, all tears will be wiped away. Then the joy and blessing will be eternal.
We cannot totally understand all this, for it is a plan of God. But we can accept what God has decided to do, accept Christ as our Savior, and enjoy all that He has given us.

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me. (Psalm 50:23)
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.1 – Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.2
Ye are a … royal priesthood, … that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.3 – Ye … as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.4 – By him … let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.5
My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.6

Comfort of the Scriptures
“The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10).
A joyless Christian is a powerless Christian, both in maintaining his own life and in communicating help to others. God wants His joy to grip our hearts, no matter what state of things may surround us. “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” The Lord desires us to be “exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.” He desires to “fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” Much joy ought to be connected with our salvation, and only broken fellowship with the Lord can rob us of that joy. When that happens, let us come quickly to the Lord in confession, praying, “Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free Spirit.” Hard circumstances and bitter trials ought not to nullify our joy in the Lord, for we can be “as sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing.” Therefore, “count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations [testings].” “My soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in His salvation,” and thus “with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation,” finding that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Joy when the heart is burdened,
Joy when trials we face,
Joy in the Lord’s great mercy,
Joy in Him and His grace.
