197. O God! What Cords of Love Are Thine | C.M. |
| by Doddridge |
|
|
| | |
|
| 1 | O God! what cords of love are Thine, | Hosea 11:4; Song of Solomon 8:6-7; Ecclesiastes 4:12; John 1:14; Jeremiah 31:3; Song of Solomon 1:4 |
| How gentle, yet how strong! |
| Thy truth and grace their strength combine |
| To draw our souls along. |
|
| 2 | The guilt of twice ten thousand sins | 1 Timothy 6:12; Deuteronomy 33:25 |
| One moment takes away; |
| And when the fight of faith begins, |
| Our strength is as our day. |
|
| 3 | Comfort, through all this vale of tears, | Psalm 126:5-6; Psalm 84:6; Isaiah 51:12; 2 Corinthians 1:3 |
| In blest profusion flows; |
| And glory of unnumbered years |
| Eternity bestows. |
|
| 4 | Drawn by such cords we'll onward move, |
| Till round the throne we meet, |
| And, captives in the chains of love, |
| Embrace our Saviour's feet. |
