All this is to my mind decisive that the sixth seal, according to its natural place in the prophecy, in no way means the great day of the Lord, but sets forth, first in figures and then in simple language, an overwhelming revolution which overthrows existing institutions and governmental order. The authorities, supreme, dependent, and subordinate, are broken up. The shock is universal. (Lectures on Revelation 6 by W. Kelly)
The sixth seal may be regarded as a kind of immediate consequence of the foregoing cry. (Lectures on Revelation 6 by W. Kelly)
The language at the close of the chapter shows that the powers and instruments high or low of the persecuting world received an earnest of their doom, as truly as the slain ones in the seal before have their recognition in part before they inherit the kingdom. (Revelation 6 by J.N. Darby)
Earthquake: Convulsion of the whole structure of society. Darkening and subversion of established authorities. (Revelation 6 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Sun Black as Sackcloth: Alienation from God and Satanic darkening of the ruling power. (Revelation 6 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
Moon as Blood: All derived authority in a state of death morally. (Revelation 6 Symbols by A.H. Burton)
