144. Salvation! Oh the Joyful Sound

C.M.
by I. Watts, 1709; chorus and v. 2, Anon., 1744
1
Salvation! Oh the joyful sound!

What pleasure to our ears!

A sovereign balm for every wound,

A cordial for our fears.
“That I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.” (Psalm 9:14)
Glory, honor, praise and power,

Be unto the Lamb forever;

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer,

Hallelujah, praise ye the Lord.
“And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.” (Revelation 5:13)
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” (Revelation 5:9)
2
Salvation! O ascended Lamb,

To Thee the praise belongs!

Salvation shall inspire our hearts,

And dwell upon our tongues.
“And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:10)
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:11)
“My mouth shall show forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.” (Psalm 71:15)
