The current and common connotation of "hope" involves a possible good outcome. But that word originally meant "a good expectation" — something positive to count on! And that is what God gives. He gave us His Word because He wants us to know what we can positively expect. Popular religions say that we may not be certain of our destiny until we die, but the believing thief who died beside the Lord Jesus knew his destiny before He died, because Jesus said, "Today you shall be with Me in paradise," and all who trust in Him can have the same absolute assurance from His Word.
