What a marvelous change had taken place in the lives of these believers who were formerly idol worshippers. Now they were indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Now they could speak about the Lord Jesus Christ properly, whereas before they would curse Him. Such a great victory has been won at the cross that the Victor shares with His followers the spoils. These gifts are given to us by the Spirit for the profit of all. They were not given for self-exaltation. As each member of our body functions for the good of all the other members, so has one Spirit done for all believers in Christ. Do not think that there is no service for you to perform. Every member in your body has a purpose, and so have you in the body of Christ. Some members of the body may be more prominent than others, but each performs its function for the benefit of the whole. Suppose you hurt a finger, doesn’t the rest of the body feel it? Surely! Or if you burned your tongue, would the pain felt by that one member be known to all the other members of your body? Not only suffering but honor is felt by the entire individual. So we are to “rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep” (Romans 12:15).
