Paul’s desire is that Christians would grow more and more to have a life that is pleasing to God. Under grace, God gives us commandments that shape and direct our new life in a way that will be pleasing to God. First, we have a call to holiness to keep our bodies sexually clean. We should be careful how someone else touches our bodies. The Bible says to keep yourself pure. Second, we are told to “love one another.” Third, we should be diligent in our chores and work hard at our jobs. Fourth, we are reminded that at any moment the Lord Jesus will come down from heaven for the believers. We will hear three things: (1) The Lord will shout to us. We do not know what He will say, but He will be happy. (2) We will hear the voice of the archangel. (3) We will hear the trumpet of God. Then the dead believers will rise out of their graves and in the twinkling of an eye our bodies will be changed to a body suitable for the glory of heaven. All believers will go up together to meet the Lord in the air. While we wait for the Lord to come, our behavior should be holy. If I knew the Lord Jesus was coming to see me sometime today, how would I behave? I should always be expecting Him to come at any moment. We can comfort one another with the hope of knowing that the believers who have died will also be with the Lord Jesus.
