The Apostle Paul was troubled in his mind as to how those in Corinth would receive his first letter, even though it was written by inspiration. He sent Titus to find out what effect his letter had on the Corinthians. The report that Titus brought to Paul was encouraging, but there were still some matters that needed to be taken care of. After the opening words of salutation, the Apostle Paul thanks the God of all comfort. What an encouragement it is to know such a God when there is so much in this world to discourage us! Did you know that Christians are also called saints in the Bible? This second epistle is of profit to all believers, then and now. These early believers were suffering much for Christ and are reminded that the consolation of Christ would abound in them as it did with the Apostle. While in Asia, the persecution was so great that Paul thought he was going to lose his life, but he wasn’t afraid because he was trusting in God who can raise the dead. Therefore, he was bold to preach, along with Silvanus (Silas) and Timotheus (Timothy), that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The Apostle wanted to go to Corinth again, but he desired that certain practices be corrected before he came. Then he could visit them happily and share their joy.
