This chapter begins by encouraging us to be strengthened in our Christian lives by remembering to read the Word of God. The Word of God teaches us truth and gives us strength to stand against false teaching.
Satan is attacking Christianity with scoffers and lust. The scoffers mock the truth that Jesus is coming again. They choose to ignore the Word of God because they want to do what they like. Lust is a strong desire for money, pleasure, or sex without marriage. These ungodly people will be burned up with very hot fire. The Lord is not willing that any should perish, so He waited more than 6000 years for the ungodly to be saved. One thousand years is like one day to God. But time is running out on the ungodly.
Why do we want the things of this world? This world and all the ungodly works will be burned and will melt in the very hot fires of judgment. God will replace this earth with a new heaven and earth where everything is righteous. We should be careful to live in peace and godliness so we are without blame when Jesus comes.
Be strong in faith. Trust God’s Word. Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Honor God.
