37. Restoration

Listen from:
“A young Convert.” There is nothing in John 13:1010Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. (John 13:10) about asking for forgiveness. The entire scene in the opening of this chapter sets forth the present action of Christ toward people. The washing of regeneration makes us clean—clean every whit.; and Christ's present action is to maintain us in the power of that cleansing, or to restore us when, through want of holy vigilance, we have lost it. You may read, in connection, Eph. 5:25-2725Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Ephesians 5:25‑27).
