(Genesis 24:15) (#32). Therefore the sight of a man carrying water would more readily attract attention. Hackett says: “I recollect but two instances in which I saw a man bearing a pitcher of water; and I think that the manner in which the Saviour refers to such a circumstance (he mentions it as a sign) implies that it was not common” (Illustrations of Scripture, p. 89).
