The prisoners were delighted to have them, and those who were undergoing punishment in cells, and were not allowed to be present at my service when I gave them out, clamoured for them when their punishment was served, and they were able to be at the service once more. And I will see they get them next Sunday, and I will keep the others down at the prison, and every time a fresh draft of prisoners comes in I will see that each man has one.” —
