A Letter From the Sea

A letter from a Rifleman in the Egyptian Expeditionary Force has reached me. It has been in the sea—the ship carrying it to England torpedoed most probably—but the mail bag containing it was brought out of the sea, and so the letter was delivered. He says: —
“Dear Sir, — Just a few lines to thank you very much for the New Testament you so kindly sent me. I have given one of your post-cards to one of our boys, who is going to send it to you. I received the Testament soon after I came out of Hospital, as I have been wounded, but thank God, He brought me out with only a slight one. If You care to send some post-cards, I will give them to some of our boys who haven’t a New Testament. I must now close, thanking you again for your kindness. — H. G.”
I take this opportunity of saying how glad I am to send post-cards or New Testaments to any soldier or sailor entirely free of charge to them. All they have to do is to fill in the post-card with name and correct address—written legibly—and send to
