A Personal Word and a Message

“We all say, Go on, the time is short.”
I have to thank God that although I have been very-ill a good deal of this year yet still, by God’s help, I have been able to do the work of the Message each month. This would not have been possible had it not been for the prayers of so many of God’s dear people at home and abroad. I have just been reading a letter I had from New Zealand. At the end the writer says—speaking for himself and others— “We all say, Go on, the time is short.”
Yes; we have been able to go on. Never could one have had more willing or devoted helpers than God has given. Never could more prayerful, practical sympathy have been shown to anyone than, I have had shown to me during my long illness. We have sent many thousand more Testaments this year than last. Our friends have increased in number, and—best of all—the blessing of God has rested in a marked manner upon all we have undertaken. “We must go on—the time is short.” I think, as you read the letters from the, soldiers and sailors, that will be interspersed largely through this number, you will love the dear men more and more, and you will see to it that we are able to send twice as many Testaments next year as we have this.
If there has been any delay in my correspondence this year, or if I have seemed to neglect any, I ask you to forgive me. Much time had to be spent in bed, and much in simply going from one room to another.
We have had great difficulty about the French Testaments, but we are sure God will over-rule all that. We have sent to thousands of the French soldiers—about one hundred and twenty Testaments each day to individual soldiers—who are most eager for God’s Word. The Italian soldiers are sending is requests on the French post-cards. We hope to have a separate post-card for Italian soldiers soon. We are gladdened by a request from an American soldier at the Front for a Testament. The scarcity of paper, and the lack of labor is causing difficulties as to production and purchase. But God is rich, and I am sure we shall never lack friends to send His word to men who are eager for it.
