So many young folks are more ready to please themselves than to please the kind father and mother who have clone so much for them.
If mother tells you to clean up some scraps of paper you left on the floor, how do you think it sounds to the ear of God to hear you say, "I won't" ?
If father says, "I don't like to have you bringing home such a poor report from school," how does it sound to God when you say, "I don't care" ?
Not only your parents, but God Himself is grieved by your unkindness and disrespect.
It never makes you feel good to treat your parents in this way. Some clay they will be gone, and as you think back over the past years, you will have much more peace and happiness if you have obeyed, respected, and honored them, than if you have not done so.
A verse with which you are very familiar is,
It is very displeasing to God when children disobey their parents, and talk back to them disrespectfully. But when they obey and honor their parents, and do all they can to please them, the Lord will bless and reward them very richly.
Try hard, dear children, to obey these commands of the Lord. It may not always be easy, but you will feel much happier afterward.
