Too many people think they can work their way to heaven. They think they can obtain salvation by their good deeds.
Some of you know this is impossible, because you have heard so many times what God's Word says. But there may be others reading "Messages of Love" today, who are trying to save themselves.
Our verse tells us that God saved us according to His mercy,—not by works of righteousness that we have done.
Dear reader, all your so-called good works cannot blot out your many sins, nor change your sinful nature. You have sinned, and you do sin, and you need a Saviour. God in His love and mercy has provided that Saviour in the person of His only begotten and well-beloved Son. Jesus died on the cross, bearing the punishment we deserved.
Do not cling to your own efforts. They are worthless. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man cometh unto the Father but by Me." John 14:66Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6).
There is no other way. The work of Christ alone can save you,—a work of love, mercy, and grace; for none of us deserved the salvation Christ has wrought for us.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast." Eph. 2:8, 98For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8‑9).
