Many of you young readers go to school and study arithmetic, and some of you have learned when you add two numbers how to prove that the sum is correct. Adding 14 and 22 you have 36. If you subtract either 14 or 22 from 36, you have the other number as a result. This proves that your addition was correct.
Now, dear children, there are many things in this life to prove, test, or try out beside arithmetic. And there are different ways of proving things.
You see by our verse today that God wants us to prove all things. If people tell you things about God and Jesus, about death and Satan, about eternal life or eternal punishment,—you should prove them before you believe them. Do you know how to do this ?
You will find the answer in your Bibles. God's Word is a test for everything. We should not believe any teaching that is contrary to the precious Bible verses we are reading and learning from week to week.
If your friends ask you to do things and go places with them, you can apply this same test. Prove by God's word whether it is right and best for you to do the things you think you would like to do.
When you have found the true and good things that God wants you to believe and do, hold fast to them and turn away from all that is false or displeasing to the Lord.
