“QUICKEN me after Thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of Thy mouth." Psalm 119:8888Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth. (Psalm 119:88). Sometimes when we have been working hard or playing hard, we feel very tired. Often when we come home at night our steps are much slower than when we start out in the morning.
And yet, if there is someone at home that we are anxious to see, we quicken our steps, even though we are tired. If we are interested in something at the end of the journey, we put more life and energy into our steps than if nothing interesting awaited us.
When you are going home from school, you may get to playing with other children, or stop to watch things along the way, and so be slow about getting home; but you go on home sooner or later to the ones you love.
Now, dear children, if you love Jesus, —if you know Him as your Saviour,— you are on your way to the Home above, where you are going to be with this Saviour.
While you are taking this journey through life, the Lord wants you to think about Him every day, and do the things that please Him. There are many things down here, both work and play, that oc_cupy your thoughts. But the Lord does not want you to be so much occupied with these things that you will forget what is ahead of you at the end of the journey.
David, King of Israel many hundred years ago, loved the Lord and wanted to please Him. But he had many things to do and think about, and knew that he needed the Lord's help, so he said,
"Quicken me after Thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of Thy mouth." That means he wanted the Lord to give him strength and energy to keep God's Word and do as the Lord wished him to do.
If you read God's Word carefully each day, and talk with Him in prayer, it will help to keep you from becoming too much occupied with things down here. As your heart is filled with love for the Lord at the thought of what He has done for you, —at the thought of seeing Him at the end of the journey, you will quicken your steps. The Apostle Paul said,
