Perhaps ever one who is reading this paper today, has heard before about God and His Son, the Lord Jesus, and about heaven.
Most of you, perhaps all, want to go to heaven when you leave this world. You don't want to be lost. You want to be with Jesus forever.
But while you have heard over and over the story of the cross and the way of salvation, you may not be sure that you are saved.
Sometimes we hear things that are, as we say, "too good to be true." And that is the way some people feel when they hear about God's love, and His offer of salvation. Many a person has said, "I'm too bad to be saved." Others have said, "I'm doing the best I can, and hope I shall be saved." If these people would only take God at His word, how happy they would be!
Suppose you are at a picnic with a lot of other children. While you are all busy playing together, the teachers arrange the sandwiches and cake and other good things on a long table. After while it is time to eat and a teacher says, "All those that will come up to the table now, and be seated, shall have their lunch."
How many do you think would stay away? How many do you think would say, "Teacher doesn't mean me. I'm too bad" ? Not one, I'm sure. Why can you not accept God's offer of salvation in this same simple way?
"Whosoever" means you, and this offer is to you just as truly as the offer to eat lunch at the picnic. All that God asks is that you believe on His Son,—believe that Jesus has borne on the cross the punishment you deserved.
Our verse says, "He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life." That doesn't mean that you may get it if you keep on doing your best. Nor does it mean that you may hope to get it someday. It means you have it now, as soon as you believe God's precious promise.
This wonderful offer of salvation is to everyone, no matter how bad,—no matter how undeserving. And if God's love and goodness have caused you to love Him in return, and to go to Him for salvation from your sins, believing that the blood of Christ has washed them all away, salvation is yours, now, and forever. And God wants you to have that assurance now, for He says,
