“WATCH and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Matt. 26:4141Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:41). Sometimes you see things that you would very much like to have, but you don't take them because you know it is wrong to steal.
Children should try to please their parents and teachers, and we should all try to please the Lord. Many things that you would like to do, you try to keep from doing because these things would displease your parents or teachers.
But sometimes the desire becomes so strong that you do something you were trying not to do. As our verse says, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. God knows how weak we are. He knows how easy it is for us to do things that we know are wrong, and He wants to help us, so He tells us to watch and pray—pray to Him for strength to keep from doing the wrong things that we are tempted to do.
If you run across a railroad track or a street in a busy town or city, without looking to see whether anything is coming, you are much more likely to be run over than if you watch till the way is clear. And if you are watching to keep out of the way of evil and temptation, you will often be kept from wrong-doing.
But you need God's help, so pray to Him every day to give you strength and courage to do that which is right, and not to do that which you know is wrong.
