"Y"
“YE are the light of the world." Mat. 5:14.
If you go into a dark room at night, you cannot see what is in it. But if you light a lamp or candle, or turn on the gas or electric light, you will see chairs room.
The world was dark and black with sin, and when Jesus came He brought light into the world. In Him the love and holiness of God shone out like a light in a dark place, and showed the people how wicked they were.
That is why they wanted to kill Jesus. They did not want to hear about the love of God. They wanted to go on with their wickedness. They "loved darkness rather than light." John 3:1919And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19).
But there were some who wanted to follow Jesus and walk in the light. For Jesus had said,
These followers of Jesus wanted to hear about the love of God. And just as He told them about God and shone as a bright light, so He wanted them to shine as lights, and tell others about God's love.
If you know Jesus as your Saviour, He wants you too, to be a bright and shining light, telling those around you about His love and how He died on the cross to save sinners. And none of you are too young.
Many years ago a little girl only three years old, said to a gentleman whom she saw on a train, "
Does oo love God ?"
This man did not know the Lord, but he could not forget that simple question, coming from the lips of a sweet little child. And he did not rest until he found Jesus as his Saviour. Later he went to the home where the child lived, to tell how her question had been used to bring him to God, but the child's sorrowing mother had to tell him that God had taken this dear little bright and shining light to His home in heaven.
If you know the Saviour, and don't tell anyone else about Him, it is like putting a lamp under a basket that shuts out all the light. The lamp doesn't do anyone any good if it is covered up and the light hidden. Jesus does not want you to be useless like that. He wants you to shine brightly so that others can see, and get light and help from you.
And don't think to yourself, "I'm young yet; there's plenty of time." You, like the child in our story, may be called to be with Jesus very soon.
