(whose father is Jehovah). (1) A son of King Jeroboam I; died in early life (1 Kings 14). (2) Son of Rehoboam, and his successor to the throne. A wicked king. Reign, 959-956 B. C. (2 Chron. 12:16¹⁶And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead. (2 Chronicles 12:16); 2 Chron. 13). The priestly course Abia (Luke 1:5⁵There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. (Luke 1:5)), belonged to Zacharias, father of John the Baptist. (4) A priest who entered the covenant with Nehemiah (Neh. 10:7⁷Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, (Nehemiah 10:7)).
