Abjects (Nekeh)

Concise Bible Dictionary:

This word occurs only in Psalm 35:1515But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not: (Psalm 35:15). The root signifies “to smite,” and Horsley translates “smiters were gathered together against me.” The LXX, “Plagues were plentifully brought against me.” Hengstenberg retains “abjects,” and says, “the smitten are men of the lowest grade, the poorest,” whom the Psalmist said “I knew not.” He thinks Job 30:1,1But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock. (Job 30:1) the following, is “a strikingly coincident parallel passage.”
