These are the words of Joseph when he was in Egypt. At this point he was the second most powerful man in the land; he had wealth and honor; but he still called Egypt the land of his affliction. Eighty years after his ascension to power, Joseph died. After all that time he still showed that he didn’t consider Egypt his home - he asked his family to take his bones back to Canaan. Let’s remember the example of Joseph. Let us not allow the many blessings which we enjoy in this world to cause us to forget that our home is not here. Because this world has cast out our Savior, it is the land of our affliction.
