Servers:
btp-backup
btp-dc2
btp-vhost
btp-apps
btp-dc1
btp-fs
btp-rd
btp-sql
btp-uv
pc-impose (not exactly a server)
pc-mh (a workstation)
Any of these computers can be administered via remote desktop protocol. (RDP) The two physical devices are btp-vhost and btp-backup. They host the vm’s listed above.

Btp-Dc1 & Btp-Dc2 Management

When remoting into btp-dc1 & btp-dc2, you’ll notice that they don’t have GUI’s. Some management (updates, computer names, etc) can be done by typing sconfig into the command window.
If you accidently close the command prompt window, you can reopen it by opening the task manager (ctrl+alt+insert, ctrl+shift+escape, or possibly? ctrl+alt+delete)
From the task manager > file > run new task, type cmd. This will open a new window.
To Connect to a Server
Open your start menu, and type remote desktop.
Enter the computer name and click connect
Enter the user/password
note. The user must have rdp rights or be a part of the administrator group. (in active directory users and computers)
These settings (along with user/password) can be saved by clicking “Show Options”, then clicking “Save As ... ” and saving to a location you remember
To restart a server
Assuming it’s a server with a large impact, announce to staff (including Dan, Erika, Mark, Etc via email) that the local servers and internet will be down.
Connect to the server via the method above, and restart it. (this includes UV)
If btp-vhost is being restarted, the vm’s it is hosting should automatically be paused and resumed. (In other words when you restart the underlying btp-vhost it does the orderly job of putting all its vm’s to sleep, restarts itself, then wakens up all its vms)
Restart:
Select
Shut Down
Then Start. (button should show in place of Shut Down ...
To manage server / server services
Add RSAT features. (if you haven’t done this before)
On your pc, from your start menu, search for “Manage Optional Features”
Add these:
Now, you can manage dns, dhcp, active directory, and much more from your pc!
Once installed, type Server Manager into your start menu.
Good Luck! Watch youtube for tutorials on what you’d like to do. Or search google. Both work well.
If you don’t want to install remote management tools, you can rdp into a server above and control them from that session.
Restart Modem
This isn’t a common occurrence/need anymore. Usually it’s the provider (comcast) that’s down. Especially if the phone service is down too.
1.  Walk to the cave (server room)
2.  On the desk to the right of the server rack is a box that should say comcast & has a coax cable. Unplug it.
3.  Wait 30+ seconds
4.  Plug the power back in.
5.  Wait till it is back online. (it may take a couple of minutes)
You can tell it’s back online when the DS, US & Online lights are on.
