207. "But for a Moment"--This Valley of Sorrows
10.10.11.10.
1
"But for a moment" — this valley of sorrows,
Darkened with shadows and heavy with sighs;
Bright dawns the morrow, the glorious morrow!
Faint not! the Lord shall call us to arise!
"But for a moment" — only a moment!
Light our affliction — ’twill soon pass away.
"But for a moment" — only a moment!
Then comes the glory, forever and aye!
2
"Far more exceeding" the heavenly glory —
Sufferings here with it cannot compare.
Glory eternal the guerdon for anguish,
Radiant crowns, for the thorns, over there.
3
Temporal things like a vapor shall vanish;
Higher than earth lies the land of our choice:
Upward we press to the home there eternal;
Jesus, the Lord, we behold and rejoice!
