“Chaff” From Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

Was separated from the grain by throwing all into the air from sheets, or forks, the wind carrying away the chaff (Psa. 1:4⁴The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. (Psalm 1:4); Isa. 17:13¹³The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind. (Isaiah 17:13); Hos. 13:3³Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. Straw used for cattle fodder and litter

(Gen. 24:25²⁵She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in. (Genesis 24:25); 1 Kings 4:28²⁸Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge. (1 Kings 4:28); Isa. 11:7; 65:25⁷And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (Isaiah 11:7)

The refuse of threshed and winnowed grain—the husk of the wheat. Used symbolically for that which is quickly consumed, or easily swept away by the wind—worthless people (Psa. 1:4⁴The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. (Psalm 1:4); Psa. 35:5⁵Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord chase them. (Psalm 35:5); Isa. 5:24²⁴Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. This is spoken of as being eaten by the cattle, and it is foretold that it will be the food even of the lion in a future day. This agrees with the practice in the East where the straw is cut up or crushed, and used as food for cattle (1 Kings 4:28²⁸Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge. (1 Kings 4:28); Isa. 11:7⁷And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. (Isaiah 11:7)). It was used in Egypt for mixing with the clay in making bricks: in some of the ancient Egyptian bricks the straw can be seen.
