* John the Baptist and our Lord preached repentance and salvation to the Jews only, in view of the coming kingdom, then said to be near at hand. It was, therefore, the “gospel of the kingdom.” See Matt. 4:23; 9:35²³And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (Matthew 4:23)
³⁵And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. (Matthew 9:35); Mark 1:14¹⁴Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, (Mark 1:14).

† The preaching of the gospel of the grace of God is to all classes alike; whereby believers are gathered out from the world to come under the spiritual rule of Christ in the Church; while nominal Christians mingle with the true and together form what is known as Christendom; and thus both together constitute the present phase of the kingdom.
