Joseph Type of Christ

Gospel—A.M. Barry
DISCLAIMER: The following has been auto-transcribed. We hope it will help you to find the section of this audio file you are looking for.
While God's spirit bid you come Sinner, do not longer roll, lest you seal your hopeless goons. Be in time. The number is 2525. Time is gliding swiftly by death and judgment.
Both draw and I through the arms of Jesus fly, be in time, or I pray you, count the cost ere the fatal line be crossed, and your priceless soul belongs be in time.
Thinner. Heed the warning voice. Make the Lord your happy choice.
Then all heaven will rejoice in time.
Come from darkness into light.
From the way that seemeth right, come and start for heaven tonight be in Time hymn #25.
Live at best is very great, like the falling off police, like the winding over here.
In high leaning neighbor girl in fire.
And that I will soon be careful.
While not hearing it, you come and I do not want grow.
Yeah, Vincent, you lost her way, you may find No.
Surprising God to land in high.
Turn to the book of Genesis.
My thoughts tonight is to consider.
The life of Joseph.
Are the type of Christ and also Joseph.
Now receiving his brethren of the way.
The Lord received sinful men.
So I just threw a little glance along at different captures, beginning with the 37th chapter.
Give a thread of thought.
Oh, we might see this type amber. We might in this way get the blessed savior of sinners before us.
Look at the 37th chapter and the third verse.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children.
Because he was the son of his old age and he made him a cult.
Of many colors. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him.
More than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
Now the first way that we see Joseph as the type of Christ is in connection.
With his father's great love for his son.
And when we consider?
The fact that God had won only Son.
And that he gave that well beloved Son.
God of the Cross and Thy for our sins.
We can see how this type fits in with the story of the Lord Jesus.
You remember that well known verse, John 316. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
When we think God from never did one solitary thing.
To displease his Father. He was His delight from past bygone ages. The 8th of Proverbs tells us that He was ever by His side, and He found his delight in But God sent that one in whom He found such perfect delight into a world of sin to become our Savior.
And if we read on further down in the chapter.
Will find in the 13th verse.
Where it tells us, Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock, and seek em?
Come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said, Here am I. And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flock.
When we get the story of God spending his son.
Into this world as a savior.
00:10:01
And we find that just as Joseph went to his brethren with both hands full of blessings that his father sent to bestow upon him.
As we read the light of our blessed Savior, we are told how he went about doing good and healing all that we are possessed with the devil, for God was with him.
We never find the Lord Jesus doing 1 solitary thing for himself.
But we find him restoring blessings wherever he went.
On his journey as he went about doing his father's will.
But what was the effect of all this kindness and goodness? Love.
He showed forth.
To his rather than.
It was just the same as with the Brethren of Joseph.
It says that his brethren hated it, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
And so when they see Joseph coming.
I see him in the distance as he approaches.
In the 18th verse of this chapter, it says that when they saw him afar off even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slail.
So there is the.
The heart of this world.
Seen in the way.
Y'all must rather manifested their hatred toward their brothers.
The reverse that tells us, and it's the 69th prom, I think they hated me without a call. Just think of after the Lord had healed their sick and.
Blend their leopards.
And open the eyes of the blind.
They just showed all their hatred and enmity and that was in their hearts against that blessed one.
All we may think, friends, that we're a lot better class of people.
Than those that we're speaking about.
Who rejected the Lord Jesus?
And nailed into the cross of Calvin.
But if we only search into our own heart.
We find that we're not one bit better.
Than those.
Who nailed the Blessed Lord to thy shameful cross?
I'm sure that everyone here has it sometimes heard the gospel that sometimes has the blessed Savior presented to it. But what has been the attitude of your heart towards that one who came and loved the Savior soul? Have you accepted him or are you still a Christ rejected? And if so?
You're saying in your heart tonight just as.
Those rejectors of old faith, we will not have this man to reign over us.
You know that you don't.
Desire Christ. None of us desire Christ, even those who are saved at one time.
Because the 53rd of Isaiah tells us that when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire.
How strange it is.
That the heart of man is filled against.
The one who can bless him in every possible way, make him happy in this life, and give him heaven and happiness for all eternity.
What is the reason? Why is it that human beings are so depraved? Well, I think perhaps the answer is this.
That man loves his spirit and would rather have a few years of sinful places and to have the Christ of God.
And heaven for all eternity.
00:15:02
Now the Lord, you know, he said of all that they have seen and hated both me and my father. He tells the reason because I testify that the work thereof are evil.
That is, the words of Christ. Go after your conscience.
Make you realize that you're not right with God.
And it's because your conscience has been pricked.
And you feel your own wretchedness?
That your heart is healed against the one who in such love and grace.
Have come to bless you just as Joseph came in such grace.
I was rather that he thought to bring.
Into happiness and blessings.
Well, we'll have to make our history, our story of Joseph short and ordered to lead on to a special thought I had in mind. So we'll just mention that when he came to them.
Left there stripped him off his coat of many colors.
And they put him in a pit. And then they stole him to the Ishmaelites and took him into Egypt.
And that a remarkable picture, beloved friend.
Of our blessed Lord, for you know that he was told.
For 30 pieces of silver, Joseph was sold for 20 pieces.
Our Blessed Lord and Savior was only sold with 30 pieces of silver.
That's the value of this world put upon the Christ of God was only the price of a slave, or else they wanted to get all they could from Him. They would accept his benefits, but to receive him and to accept him as Savior and Lord.
Rather go on in there and spin.
In their wretched way than to have that one.
Who was thinking their eternal happiness?
We were reading this morning in the worship meeting a verse about Joseph and the 49th chapter of Genesis.
And the 22nd verse.
Joseph is a fruitful bow, even a fruitful bow, bow well whose branches
run over the wall. Oh, what a lovely description of our Lord.
A fruitful bow by a well left well living water.
But he dispenses so freely.
The next verse tells us The Archers have thoroughly grieved him and shot at him, and hated him but his bowl of bold and strength.
Joseph being put in that kit and then sold and put in irons as we read.
And as described in this verse, just read The Archers.
Shot of punishment.
Brings before us.
What the Lord endured when He became.
The great sacrifice for the sins.
Of guilty minds. The Archers have shot at him.
And we think of all the hatred and enmity that was in the heart of man.
Towards the one who had done nothing amidst.
And we read of how they crowned him with corn.
And how they spit in his face.
Robbed him in mockery and bowed the knee before him, and after hours of suffering, they finally.
Lifted him up on the cross of Calvin.
00:20:05
Will the Archer surely directed all their attacks?
Their arrows upon that blessed One who is there.
For second even of his disciples.
But when nailed there to the cross, it leads us to another.
Another kind of suffering.
That was not from the hand.
Obvious preacher man. And to bring that suffering before us, we'll just turn to the 53rd of Isaiah.
And the fifth verse.
It says. But he was wounded for our transgression.
He was bruised for our iniquities.
The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we're healed.
Or is that true of everyone here?
Is there anyone in this company, young or old?
Adam knows not tonight that their soul has been healed.
While the strike described here when it tells us that by those various strikes, the thinner lost thinner with all his sins and guilt.
Well, if possible, friends and all that. It's regardless of whatever your circumstances may be or whatever may be before you in this life that is well with your soul.
But to let us consider.
As we call attention to these persons want it off that blessed Savior the savior soul from an eternal hell.
All what meaning there is in these words before wounded and rose?
And who was it that wounded? I had one as described here, whereby your soul is healed. You know, Pilate took Jesus encouraged it.
And that was an awful.
Way of punishment.
Unnecessary when the victim was soon to be hanging on the cross.
To lacerate that fact where the Roman spirit every rite that was placed upon that's back would leave the place for.
All thanks to the lover for that precious, that dear, loving Jesus.
Without the fact that was lacerated, nailed to the cross hanging there by those four wounds that suspended.
Or do you say that is a very extremity of human suffering? Indeed it is.
No one ever suffered physically like the Blessed Lord Jesus suffered when he was nailed there to the cross.
And all think of the exchange, think of His rejection. All his disciples forsake me, leaving him there alone, there to be mocked and derided. But beloved, as I read those words again, He was wounded for our transgression.
He was bruised for our iniquities. I'm not reading about pilots, I'm reading about what God himself.
A place upon his beloved son. I'll just call your attention to a verse further down the ninth verse.
It says, and he made his grave with the wicked.
00:25:02
And with the rich in his death. Now notice that word death as given in the margin. It's in the plural.
It fell, and with the rich inhale's death.
Why is that?
Because that step was just like millions of deaths.
Contracted into one person suffering that he was enduring there as he was hanging on that call.
There all there have been martyrs, friends. That's going to suffer the most.
Excruciating pain were burned at the stake and tortured in every conceivable way, but their suffering were nothing compared to the suffering.
Of God's beloved from when he was made an offering for sins. Just look at another verse.
In the temporary.
It says, hear it please Jehovah to bruise him. He hath put him to grieve when thou shalt make his soul, and offering for sin.
He shall see his feet, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hands.
In all of that it pleased Jehovah the bruising, and he hath made his soul.
An offering for sin and which?
Take that in the soul of that Holy One made an offering there on the crawl for your sins and mind.
We think sometimes that that cross is the center of two eternities which looked with wraps, adoring eyes onward and back to Thee. O cross of Christ, O glorious tree, what place can be compared with thee, where God's own son was crucified and for our sins are ransomed made?
I'll look again at the sixth verse. All we, like sheep have gone astray. We've turned everyone to his own way. Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all, and that's why that buffering.
Wasn't many deaths if you took in all the death of all the martyrs and con brought them together into one into one supper.
You'd have some small ideas.
For what the blessed Son of God passed through when Jehovah a holy, righteous God?
Took those things that you and I had committed, and for which we must be landed in an eternal hell under the judgment of God, because of.
Jehovah took those winds.
And after his son had hung there for three hours.
Mocked and insulted by his creatures.
When we read, there was darkness over all the land.
9th hour And it was during those last three hours when the sun refused to shine.
That God was a holy God was dealing.
Where is fun about the question of your sins and mine?
Friends during those hours for every believer in Christ.
He exhausted the lake of fire during those three hours.
Oh, how wonderful, friends, to know that if you're trusting in Christ as your Savior, the judgment is all passed for you. For how many of your sins did God lay upon his beloved Son when he was hanging there in those hours of darkness?
All faith answers without hesitation, He laid the mall there. God who knew them, laid them on him. And believing thou art free.
Nor at the end of those last three hours he uttered those words. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
00:30:11
Oh, what word to rend the heart, dear friends, and think of God hearing his son crying in his deep agony and distress.
Yet he had to withdraw and let him suffer until there wasn't a stroke of judgment left for him to bear.
Then he bowed his head in death and credit his friend.
And was very friendly all the very creator of this universe.
The one who has God over all, blessed forever. Amen.
Was put into that tomb and lay on that grave until the moment when God said the work is sufficient. And he raised his Son. And as we saw this afternoon, he feeded him at his own right hand in highest glory. And there he sits, a Prince and a savior.
All this subject is beautifully brought out in tight in the story of Joseph, to which we'll return again.
We have seen that Joseph Brethren rejected him.
But had Joseph beat the love, those brethren who had sold him as a slave unto the land of Egypt?
Oh, his heart was burning in love toward those brothers.
For years and years rolled by.
And he had no contact whatever wizard.
They were hard hearted men. They took that coat of many colors and they killed a golden shed, its blood. And they dipped the coat in the blood of the goat and took it and showed it to their father and asked him if he knew whose it was. And he knew it.
And then they saw their poor old father weep his heart off over the loss of his favorite son. And yet they were.
Unmoved, they weren't touched by such a sight as land friends. Isn't it terrible how hard the heart of man is in sin?
Well, that heart must be broken.
If God is going to reach you with His infinite grace, and I'll just show you how God does break the heart of the hardest Sinner in the story of Joseph as we continue.
Well, I'll just mention that.
These brethren, these very men that had told Joseph.
At last were brought face to face.
Where they're rejected, brother. No friend, God knows you, knows how to bring you face to face.
Was a savior who loved you and is longing to bless them Savior.
But he may have to put you through something of the experience that Joseph's brother were put through before they would listen.
To the word.
All their brothers who had spoken to them about their sins in the past.
Only to stir up his hatred.
Their hatred against it.
Well, it came about in this way.
That there was a famine in the land of Canaan.
And the food?
James here. And then they hear that there's corn in Egypt.
And they take the journey through the land of Egypt, infertile pools for their families.
Well, that was a means that God used to bring them right to Joseph.
And you know, God has to work in various ways and all times with deep, thorough and troubled to make us Sinner, even listen to his voice.
We think of the prodigal at this moment. When was it the prodigal decided to go back home?
Was it when he spent all his money? Oh no. He fell asleep. He fell out. Hire out to a citizen of that country.
00:35:04
So if he goes and fires out.
Was it when he was feeding the swine in the far country that he decided it was time to return to that father? Nor it wasn't.
Are they friends? What brought the party? Go back.
When he found himself starving.
A poor, miserable, starving prodigal in.
Far conflicts that, he said. I will rise and go to my father.
And friend, God wants to bring sinners here tonight to realize that they're starving. Sinners Come wretched, come starving to him, says Come happy to be while streams of salvation are flowing so near. Because, friends, you are nothing but a starving spinner.
Not a role Your positions down here worth the moment after you close your eyes and death.
You can't take what you possess until the next World. Have you anything for eternity, beloved friend.
And who knows how soon you may find yourself launched into a never ending eternity.
That lies before you.
Well, these brethren are oppressed by hunger and need, and off they go. And marvelous is the story that they found themselves in the presence of their rejected brother, So they knew him not well. We turn on to the.
To the eighth verse of the 42nd chapter, chapter 42 and verse 8.
And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are 5.
The thieves and nakedness of the land here come And they said unto him, Nay, my Lord, but to buy food are thy fervent. Come, we're all one man, some we are true men. Thy servants are no spies. And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land, here come.
And they said, Thy servants are 12 brethren, the sons of one man of the land of Canaan.
And behold, the youngest is this day with our Father, and one is not. And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies. Well, he puts them all in prison, and finally sends them back. But keep simian bound.
And as they were going out from his presence, look at the 21St verse.
And they said one to another, we are very guilty concerning our brother.
In that we saw the anguish of his soul when he decided, and we would not hear. Therefore is this distress upon them.
Well, Joseph, it tells us in the 23rd verse. And they knew not Joseph.
That Joseph understood them, for he spake unto them by an interpreter.
And he, that is Joseph turned himself about from them.
And where?
Well, how could Joseph receive those brethren with all their self righteousness?
Why? They said we're true men.
You know, there's lots of people in this world that have the same good opinion of themselves.
And they belittle sin. But the greater sin that mortal man has ever, ever can commit is the sin of rejection. The Lord Jesus Christ. That's a sin friend for which there is no forgiveness.
For when these brethren talk about their their being true men.
And they tell about their father and the youngest son being at home. They mentioned Joseph himself.
00:40:05
And they said they.
The 13th verse it has and one is Now look at the end of the 13th verse, and one is not. Now notice what Joseph said. And Joseph said unto them. That is it that I speak unto you, saying, you're surprised, you see, when.
They mentioned before Joseph that they had a brother.
That was not.
And Jehovah feels better with that, I said unto you. He nailed that right on their conscience. That is it.
And it must have had the desired effect because before they leave.
They say we are very guilty concerning our brother.
All this that I'm Speaking of in connection with Joseph's ways, with his friends, as just to point out to everyone here today, necessity of taking your place as a lost, guilty, hell deserving Sinner before God.
Have you ever owned a God that you were a sinner's friend and not only?
A thinner but a Law Center.
And more than last upheld. Deserving.
That brings through my mind about a young man who used to attend the meetings that when I was first preaching down in Kentucky.
And the brother talked to him one night, and he made a confession.
We are all so pleased.
That Harry was saved went home rejoicing over, but he wasn't saved at all.
And years afterward, 20 years later, when Brother Larson was preaching in the tent one night.
This very man got really under conviction of sin.
They said to her brother as he was returning home, he says. What am I going to do? He was so troubled about his soul.
And the brother said to Harry, He says, have you ever taken your place before golf as a lost, guilty, hell deserving Sinner? He says no, I never have. Well, he says before you reach home, he says you get down there in the woods, you just own the dog, that you're a lost, guilty, hell deserving Sinner.
Well, he did. And the next night he went through the meeting and had to close. He asked if he could say a word. What he wanted to say was this, but he was faith. He had taken my place before Gone.
Knew that he was a Sinner raised by grace. Oh, there's so much shallow work going on, dear friends. People think they get paid by signing a card or joining a church.
I just talked to a man just saying that I gave a ride to as we started out here and the only thing that he was depending on was the fact that he went to church every Sunday.
Oh, what an empty thing to rest on, friends, for your eternal salvation. Going to church. Good work for anything friend outside of outside of Christ.
Well, God is speaking in His infinite mercy, beloved friend, to bring any unrepentant Sinner here to the acknowledgement of the fact that his law that he's a guilty Sinner.
And that if he goes on as he is, that he's going to lose his soul. He lost for all eternities. That's what God is thinking, to bring before gold. And until that?
Has been wrought in the soul.
There's no acquaintance with your goal. Your jokes of friends is the Lord Jesus Christ. You can never know him. You can know a lot about him. You can know his life. You may be a good, funny school scholar, and you may be able to quote chapters and verses, many of them. But unless, friends, you've had to do as a Christ of thought about those pendulum committed, you're on your way to hell.
00:45:15
And you may land in that lost eternity before another morning dawn. May God wake you up, friends, through the seriousness and importance of what we're speaking about tonight.
Well, we find that Joseph, although he spake roughly to his presence, was most tender towards him.
And it tells us that he went out and wept. He heard everything they said. When they were talking about being very guilty, he heard it.
And if there is a word coming from any heart here as to the fact you're a Sinner that blesses, Christ of God is listening with open ears to that word that comes from you.
And we want to point our friends the way Scripture brings the gospel before us.
You'll find that I'll not turn to it for the sake of time, but it's in the it's in the 20th chapter of Acts where Paul in preaching to the to both Jew and Gentile. He says repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
An old brother made this remark. I well remember. He said that repentance is no savior, but there's no salvation without it.
Some people think you know if they cry and get all worked up.
They pass through a repentance of faith. It isn't your repentance, friends would save you his faith in the Lord Jesus. But repentance is that which brings you to the state where you're willing to accept the price of God has your favor.
Well, we will not go into details now, but I'll just mention.
There it was on the 2nd.
Time that they went to Egypt, where Joseph was made known unto his brethren.
After they had returned and everything seemed happy and settled.
And they started off with their sacks full of corn.
Joseph tells Stuart often to fall after his president when he overtook him to say that someone of their number had stolen.
A silver cup.
That he values all these self-righteous men were so sure.
That they were not guilty.
Of such an offense was that?
Who they took down their sacks and began at Reuben, the oldest and went through their facts and there wasn't any cup with his and on down the line and I'm sure as each back was open and no silver cup found that they became more and more self confident until at last they came to the to the back of their younger brother Benton.
Where they found the filter company.
And they're all unhappy, then burned around and went back to the city.
All their hearts were stirred. You'll see old Jacob had told them that if they came back without Mandarin.
All that they would bring down his Gray hair with power to the grave. And when they came, Joseph told him that they could just load up their sacks and go back to their fathers. Just leave their younger brother to be a bomb slave for him, and all would be suffered.
The friends that brought about was nothing in all their experiences all about.
And there was a third verging upon British.
Henderson Self judgment. We'll just read a little about it in the.
00:50:00
In the 16th verse I'll just picture these.
These eleven brethren before Joseph, just as you have to stand before a holy God that knows all about your life.
And Judith said, What shall we say unto my Lord? What shall we speak, or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servant. Behold, we are my Lord, service both we and he also with whom the cup is found.
Well, now we'll read on the 18th verse. And Judith came here on the him, and said, My Lord, left thy serve, and I crazy speak a word in my Lord here, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant, for thou art even as peril.
Then he tells the story about their younger brother and their father. Finally.
Permitting him to go with them.
And then in the 30th verse he says, And now when I am come to die to thy servant, my father and the Lord be not with us, seeing that his life is bound up in the last life, it shall come to pass when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will die. And thy servant shall bring down the Gray hairs of thy servant our father, with sorrow to the grave.
For thy servant became surety for the last unto my father.
Now the 33rd verse. Now therefore I trade the lest I serve, abide instead of the land abominable to my Lord, and let the lad go up with his friends.
Well, there was no question now of the work of repentance.
You see Joseph, I mean Judas. And he was the ringleader of those who soldiers. He says you can, if you'll only let Benjamin return. He says I'll be upon him forever.
I'll think of a man.
For rendering in this way that he could expect never to see his wife or his children again. He'd just be a slave there. And he always says, if you'll only let Benjamin go back, I'm willing to submit to all that.
Now there's the effect of that is seen in the next chapter. Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by, and he cried and caused every man to go out from me.
While he made known himself known unto his brethren, and he wept aloud.
And the Egyptians and the House of Pharaohs heard. And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph.
Thus my father yet lived, and his brethren could not answer him, for they were troubled at his presence. And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold and deleted. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourself, that he sold me feather, for God did send me before you to preserve life.
I love that the way he.
Fed to his brethren, come near unto me, Doesn't that just the words of the Lord Jesus and the 11TH of Matthew?
Looking over those centers of old, he says, Come unto me, all ye that labor, and are heavily, and I will give you rest. Did he reproach them? Did he remind them how they cruelly sold him into Egypt?
No, he says. Don't be grieved with yourself, he said. It was all of God that permitted you to do it. There wasn't no word of reproach.
All was just an outflow of a heart that was welding over with love.
To those wretched brethren who had filled much of his life with such vadnais and bitterness, and, I can say, beloved friends, if there's one here that has never accepted Christ as his faith, if you listen to the voice of Jesus tonight and accept him as your Savior, you'll find more wonderful love.
00:55:04
Father, this thought upon you then Joseph bestowed upon those brethren who's the count of the Count of which we have just read, all the wonderful love of the Lord Jesus. He died his favor. He suffered the judgment of God for your soul, and now he's been seeking for years, just as Joseph waited in patience as years went by.
And at last, after bringing their guilt home to their souls, then he welcomed them, threw his arms around them, as we find later on.
And wept over them. That's the heart of the blessed Savior, friends. And I just want to ask any unpaid one here tonight, are you going to turn a deaf ear to the love of Christ? And you'll go out of this room and burn the love of one who has endured so much for you? Not only for all that, that shame and suffering on the cross to see.
But after seeking you.
And bespeaching you to come to him and receive him, And you turn adept here, and you go on your way and say no to Christ. Is there anyone that is as hardened in their sins as that? Oh, it's fallen to think what must be the awful end and destiny of your soul if you reject such love. This is being offered to you at this very moment.
Beloved friends.
Can you expect anything but judgment for your soul if you stand before the great white throne, and it comes up that Christ is fought you and fled with you, and you turned away, preferring your sin, your ungodly worldly life, to having Christ and all those eternal riches? Friends, can you do it? Dare you do it? Oh, let me in closing.
Entreat you to accept Christ as your Savior.
They'll say #21.
Decide for Christ today.
And God's salvation seed yield soul and body, heart and will to him who died for thee. Christ alone can save break the power of sin. Christ the fully satisfied, the heart that leads to him #21.
Desired for right.
I.

General Meetings Wheaton, IL, August 1959, Addressed by Paul Wilson. Subject.
Christ in glory.
We were just singing with Christ, our theme begins.
The Lord of truth and love. When he had purged our sins, he took his seat above.
I'm afraid.
But there are many Christians in the world.
Real Christians that are trusting to the precious blood of Christ for their soul salvation.
That no little.
And enjoy less of the truth of the presence of Christ.
On high for us now.
You know, many people think of Christianity.
From the symbol of the cross.
In the world at large.
The cross is the symbol of Christianity.
It has been so since the days of Constantine in the early 4th century.
It's perhaps more so today than ever before.
But dear young Christian here this afternoon.
Our blessing is not alone.
Depending upon the cross, That's the great foundation, yes.
But if our blessed Lord had not risen from the dead?
You and I would have no hope.
The resurrection of Christ is the great truth of the Book of the Acts.
It's a great truth of Christianity.
And yet there are many, many men in Christendom today that get up and speak publicly.
That either openly.
Or more secretly, deny the resurrection of Christ.
But as the Apostle Paul says in First Corinthians 15, if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain and you're yet in your sins.
The resurrection of Christ is an important thing.
Furthermore.
His ascension and his place at the right hand of God.
Is an essential thing for you and me as Christians.
I'd like to with the young people in mind, not with the idea of opening up something new this afternoon, but I would like to stress.
Christ's possession.
In the glory as we find it in the Epistle to the Hebrews.
First chapter first.
The first chapter of Hebrews first verse.
God who at sundry times and in divers manners.
Spake in time passed under the fathers by the prophets.
In these last days spoken unto us by his Son.
Whom he hath appointed heir of all things.
By whom also he made the world.
Who being the brightness of his glory.
And the express image of his person.
And upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by himself purged our sins, sat down.
On the right hand of the majesty on high.
We were here this morning. At least most of us had the privilege of remembering the Lord Jesus and death.
00:05:04
But dear young Christian.
How much?
Do we think about the glory, the excellent glory?
Of the one that took our place in death.
Here we read a little about the glory of that person.
God has spoken.
In son it should read.
In the Old Testament times, He gave prophets certain things to say.
But then the Son of God came into this world, and God spoke to man in Son.
Oh, it wasn't merely the sun coming as a prophet to say what God gave him to say.
What Everything that Blessed One did down here.
Was speaking for God.
Oh, did you want to see?
God glory. God's grace, God's mercy. Or if we want to see God revealed, we see it in the sun.
What a blessed person he wants. A glorious person.
Know me as appointed heir of all things.
He made everything.
And he's going to his heir of all things.
He's going to rule over all things.
By whom also he made the world.
O being the brightness of his glory.
I understand that that is as the rays that you see, you might speak of the rays from the sun.
Oh, here's the shining forth of God and the person of the sun.
What a revelation of God to find the sun here on earth and.
See in him that's joining forth God.
The express image of his person.
Another has expressed this.
In perhaps simple language.
If you saw the imprint of a seal.
You could judge something of what the seal was by seeing the embrace.
The express image of his person.
And upholding all things by the word of his power. Little did those men know when they spit in his face.
When they put the cruel thorns upon his head.
That he was upholding all things.
Not only their creator, but their sustainer.
Upholding all things.
By the word of his power.
But then he came down into this world, and when he had by himself urged our sins.
This is linked together with all his glories and all his attributes that are mentioned here, the one upholding all things by the word of his power.
It says when he had by himself purged our sin.
All dear young Christians.
May we stop and meditate upon the glory.
The excellent glory of that blessed faith, the one that did this great work.
When he had by himself pursed our sins.
Mark you it by himself, he did it.
He didn't have any helpers.
There are those that think that they must do something to add to the work of Christ.
They say he did his part and we must do ours.
What an insult.
To the glory of that person, and to the great work that he accomplished by himself.
When he had by himself purged our state.
You think you have to do something?
Oh my friend, if there is one here or more this afternoon who are unsaved.
00:10:08
There is nothing you have to do but come as a poor, guilty Sinner and they.
Accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior.
The work by which God can forgive your sins is done.
When he had by himself purged our sins, what did he do then? Stay in the tomb?
All we find people talking about being at the foot of the cross.
Thank God the Savior that I know is not on the cross.
Thank God too, that he's not in the tomb.
No, this might. This stone is rolled away. He's the one that went into death for us. Came forth a mighty victor.
The Conqueror of death.
And then what? Is he? Just a risen man here on earth? No.
When he had by himself purged our sins, sat himself down on the right hand of the majesty on high.
Sat himself down. It's a statement of an official act.
It's a sort of an official work.
Here's one that came from the glory. We've been recounting some of the glories of that person. And then he went down, went to the cross and down into death for us.
And he rose the mighty victor, and took his seat at the right hand of the majesty on high.
All fellow Christian, young Christian here. This afternoon we have a Savior who is seated at the right hand of the majesty on high.
The one that undertook our call.
The one that was charged with our sins, the one that went down into death under the Lord of them, is seated at the right hand of the majesty on earth.
Oh, how he couldn't be in a higher place. Look at it.
The right hand and the right hand speaks of the place of power.
He's on the right hand of the majesty on high. Can you get anything greater than the right hand of the majesty on high? That's where my savior is today. That's where your savior is, young sister.
All let us never forget.
That the Lord Jesus Christ, the man that died on cow.
Albeit the Son of God, he is seated at the right hand of the majesty on high.
And he took his seat there by himself. It was his right.
No one that wasn't God could do that. It speaks of his, the deity of his person.
It speaks of the completeness of his work. He undertook A cause and he completed it, and then went up there and sat down on the right hand with a majesty on on high.
When you think of the majesty of God.
You think of the awful holiness, that holiness that would repel every sin.
Without holiness that would repel the Sinner in his sin.
All the right hand of the majesty on the on high, that's where our Savior is.
Could he be there?
If one sin remains.
All, dear young Christian, your joy, your several feats.
Depends upon not only the cross of Christ, not only the death of Christ.
But in a large measure your peace, your settle joy, depends upon his being on the right hand of the majesty on heart. What peace it should give us to think that the one that took our place, the one that by himself urged our sins.
Was able by an official act to go in and sit down on the right hand of the majesty on.
00:15:03
Oh, that's the basis of our peace. The one that took our place and went down into death has so thoroughly discharged that he's on the right hand of the majesty on high.
Makes me think you know.
When the Lord Jesus rose from the dead.
He has said, I ascend to my father, your father, my God and your God. He's been revealing the Father in his athlete, but then in resurrection he links others with himself and says, My Father, your Father. What a blessed truth.
But have ever stopped to consider the blessed truth conveyed in those words my God and your God.
He cried out on the cross. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
When he was making atonement for our sin.
And now he's brought us into a relationship with that God, that holy God, the one that hates him.
And so now he's up there, everything is clear, and he's on the right hand of the majesty on high.
All is light, where all is glory, where sin can never come. There He is the one that undertook our quote. What a save.
But I want to turn to the 8th chapter.
The 8th chapter, the first verse.
Now of the things which we have spoken.
This is the summer we have such a high priest.
Who is set on the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens.
Did you know, young Christian, that we had a high priest?
Do you know, young Christian, that we need a high priest?
Turn back to the end of the fourth chapter.
Reading from the 14th verse of the 4th chapter.
Seeing then that we have a great High priest that is passed.
Through the heavens, it should read.
That Jesus the Son of God, let us hold past our professions, for we have not an high priest, which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities.
What was an all point tempted like as we are yet without sin.
Let us come therefore boldly unto the throne of grace.
That we may obtain mercy.
And grace to help in time of need.
You may just have been saved yesterday.
The pathway is before you, your Christian pathway.
It may not be long.
Fact We're persuaded that it will not be long.
Everything shows that the Lord's coming is at the very door. Everything is ripening for the last moments on this earth. But until that blessed moment of the Lord Jesus calls us home, you and I.
Have to tread what we call a wilderness.
Now, why do we call it a wilderness?
A wilderness is a place where there is no food or drink.
A wilderness is a place where.
It's a difficult path.
Now in this world where we once were at home.
We now tread a wilderness, That is, there is nothing here that will feed the new nature.
00:20:00
Then nothing that will feed your new life.
But what we find in Christ.
As many as we find it in the word of God, but in the wilderness, on the journey. Now we're all on a journey.
And we're in a journey through an enemy's land.
We're in a journey where difficulties and trials abound.
I don't suppose there are any young Christians here this afternoon who are so young that they have never had any trials.
Maybe you've not had much more than a good headache or a toothache.
What you'll found difficulties and trials.
While you have known sorrow, you have known disappointment. They be young, but you've known some disappointments.
While in the difficulties and in the trials and they go on as long as we're here.
We need help.
We need soccer.
And We have one on the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens.
As our Gray High Priest.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace.
That we may obtain What was it that we may obtain mercy.
Or do you know that we as individuals need mercy?
Mercy as a connotation of a specific definite need in US.
Grace to meet it, that we may obtain mercy and find timely help.
Now that is one of the most important things that we can have in our wilderness journey.
That is the sucker of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is our Savior but His Supper as our great High Priest.
You feel lonely.
He was lonely.
You can go to him and tell him all about him.
You feel discouraged.
Well, wasn't there plenty to discourage him when he was here?
Lover and friend were removed far from him.
One of his disciples betrayed him.
Another denied him. And when did they ever understand him? You say I have no body that can enter into the feelings of my heart.
When did the Lord have it?
All he was one that went through this scene and touched these things down here and is up there at the very summit of power.
In order to succor you.
One of one who has passed through this road.
One who has felt keenly every sorrow that the human heart can have.
From what's going on here without it, either in seeing it or in sympathizing with it as he went through it all, he sympathized. Who was it that wept at the grave of Lazarus?
Oh, he was going to raise him from the dead, but yet he wept in sympathy.
Do you know that Blessed One? That is your Savior as your great high priest, one to whom you can go in every time, in every disappointment?
Yes, and more than that. Have you ever been tempted to do wrong?
As the world ever come to you and asked you to do this or do that, that you knew was wrong.
Do you know that in an instant of time you can lift your heart to him and say, Lord, help me?
You know that you can call in His grace and succor on an instant.
You don't have to wait for a hearing before him.
You go to the.
Doctor's office. You have an appointment, but you probably you may have to sit there two hours before he sees you.
Oh, you don't have to wait for an audience.
At the Throne of Grace.
And you know, we often fail because we haven't sought that help from on high.
00:25:07
You're tempted to do something you know you shouldn't. You say, Lord, help me.
And instantly their strength. Gratitude, Lord, keep me.
All we sometimes speak about the advocacy of Christ. The advocacy of Christ is another thing. The advocacy of Christ is connected with our failures. And then when we fail, we need his advocacy. That we may be restored, that we may be cleansed, that we may be restored to communion. But the priesthood of Christ is for our weaknesses, for the difficulties of the way, the troubles.
And if we would call on the Lord Jesus as our great High Priest more often.
We would need him less as our advocate.
You know, there were those in this world in Christendom who think that they attain a certain state of perfection.
That they do not sin anymore and that they are written since Christ saved them. They can just go on sailingly, just go on through everything without difficulty.
That is fall.
And if what they say is true, we would not need the Lord Jesus either as our great High Priest or Advocate.
But we do need him as bold. But we would need him less as advocate if we utilized his sustainable services as our great High Priest.
We'd never get through this world as Christians without his present offices on high. Now think where he is on the right hand.
As a throne of the majesty in the heavens, Can you get anything higher than that? It just seems like language is exhausted to express His place now on the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heaven. I want to turn you back to Exodus 17.
Just for a few moments.
Eighth verse.
Then came Amalek and fought with Israel and referendum.
And Moses said unto Joshua.
Chooses out men and go out and fight with Amalek.
Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought with Amelie and.
Moses, Aaron, and her went up to the top of the hill. It came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed.
And when he let down his hand, ammo extravagant.
But Moses hands were heavy, and they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat there on.
And Aaron and hers stayed up his hands, the one on the other side, and the one on the one side and the other on the other side, and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
And Joshua discomforted Amalek and his people with the heir to the sword.
Now the children of Israel have embarked on their wilderness journey.
They have been sheltered by the blood of the lamb in Egypt. They have been brought out of Egypt.
From under the taskmasters, from under Pharaoh's power through the Red Sea.
And they're now on their journey to Canaan well, in a way that represents our position.
Price his blood was shed for us as the Lamb, the Lamb of God, and he went down into death, and he rose triumphant. And Satan has been overcome, the power of death defeated.
And we're journeying on to the heavenly land.
But as soon as they embark on the journey, an enemy appears. Amalek.
We won't go into all the details of Amalek.
One of the descendants of Esau.
No doubt figurative of the flesh.
Acted upon by Satan.
00:30:03
But all you and I, each one of us as a Christian, have an old nature within us.
And Satan it can appeal to, it can act upon it.
Well, you know, when it came to crossing the rifts, the they didn't have to do a thing.
Moses said stand still and see the salvation of the Lord if.
But came to conflict with Satan. If it came to the conflict with the powers of darkness, Christ alone could meet it.
But now there's conflict in the way.
Under something ammo that comes along answering to what we have here acted upon by faith.
Now there's conflict. Moses says that Joshua chooses out men and go out and fight.
Well, are they equal for the fight?
No, they're not equal. For and you and I, dear young Christian, here this afternoon, we have an enemy, and we're passing through an enemy's land, and we have an old nature that responds to what the enemy presents.
But what's our help? What's the secret of our success? Oh Moses, the type of Christ as thy priest was up on the mountain with the hands uplift.
But his hands were weary.
His hands would fall down and then Amalek would prevail.
Oh no.
He doesn't need somebody to hold it. He doesn't need somebody to hold his hands up.
Moses is holding up his hands.
To a place that is higher, but we have a high priest that there is at the very summit.
Is at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heaven.
The conflict is not uncertain.
The outcome is sure.
We have a high priest on high at the very summit of power, knows what we're engaged in and is able to sucker us. And now he says let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may find mercy and grace are for timely help.
I want to tell what Mr. Armage used to say about the difference between grace to health and time of need and timely help.
He said. If I call.
Crossing the street and you helped me up. It surely grace the help in time of need.
But he said, if I'm crossing the street and I slipped and I'm about to fall and you catch me and prevent my falling, that's timely help.
All we have one who is there for timely help.
We need narrow slip or fall if we call on him who is at the right hand of the throne, of the majesty of the heaven. And he doesn't need someone to hold his hands up, and he's always there.
Around the clock and you never need to wait for an audience.
All dear young Christian, it isn't that I would present a lot of excitation to you this afternoon. I would like to present just some basic facts that Christ and the glory is accepted as the proof that your sins are put away for the one that took them is at the very summit of power is at the right hand of God.
And there were all his light and holiness.
All of our sin destroyed.
He's there too, at the right hand of the throne of the majesty and the heavens to suffer us as we journey on.
Oh, our dear young Christian, It isn't that I would give you a lot of exhortation or abstract statements.
But here is something that you can apply day by day as your journey off.
Call on him to go before him for help.
And he can't say.
Now now we go to the 10th of Hebrews.
11 verse.
00:35:02
And every priest standard daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices which can never take away sins.
Now that's a reference to the Old Testament types. That's a reference to the priests in the Tabernacle of Old.
And all the sacrifices they offered could never take away sin.
They only spoke of the one who was to come.
Now but this man, the Lord Jesus Christ, after he had offered one sacrifice for sin.
Forever sat down on the right hand.
Of God.
You noticed I changed the punctuation when I was reading that?
It isn't that he's merely offered one sacrifice for Sins forever, but having offered one sacrifice for Sins, the work was completed.
And he sat down forever or in perpetuity.
He'll never he never has to rise up again to take up the question of sin.
He did it once and for all and sat down. And where did he sit down?
At the right hand of God.
You know there was number chair provided in the Tabernacle of old for the priest to sit down. His work was never done because they were only types and shadows that couldn't take away this. But there's one that has done it perfectly and he has gone into the very presence of God and.
There he sits at this very hour, the one that is undertaken the whole cause and settled the issue. And he'll never rise up to have to do with sins again.
What a savior you and I have. And yet how many people there are in the Christmas or somehow talking about the work of Christ and yet thinking that they must do this and do that?
The work is done, this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins.
Forever sat down.
He's through with that work.
You'll never have to do it again.
Water sector water safety.
Now he's up there at the right hand of God.
All I would urge arm the dear young people here this afternoon, not to stop with the thought that Christ died through their sins on the cross, but to know that the one that died on the cross went down into death for them, and rose the mighty victory. And he seated at the right hand of God. Each one of these places in Hebrews they vary a little. The 1St is the right hand of the majesty on high.
The 8th chapter is the right hand of the throne of the majesty of the heavens.
Here's the right hand of God, the first chapter. The emphasis is on himself doing it.
Whereas beauty is fresh.
The 8th chapter. The emphasis is on His being at the right hand of the throne and the majesty in the heavens. Our Great High Priest.
And what would we do without?
Brethren will never know how much we've been indebted to the priesthood of Christ until we get home.
What it was to bring us through that the wilderness, with all its expectations and trials, with all its temptations and allure, all together, safely through this scene, makes me think of that verse you know, in Peter of the righteousness saved with difficult oh, God is going to have us all whole.
But to say it reverently has a difficult job getting it all. The work is all done on the basis of our salvation. He's offered one sacrifice for sins and sat down in perpetuity.
But we're not home yet, and there's much to meet us in the way. Now let's go to the 12TH chapter.
For the fourth and last case in this epistle.
00:40:07
First verse.
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses.
Let us lay aside every week, and the sin which does so easily beset us.
And let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
Looking steadfastly on Jesus.
The author and finisher of faith leave out that little word our there an italics. It was supplied by the translators. It doesn't belong there. Looking steadfastly on Jesus, the author and completer of faith.
Over the joy that was set before him endured the prop.
And is despising the shame and is sat down on the right hand.
Of the throne of God.
Now what do we have in the 12TH chapter?
Well, we find that we're still in the wilderness and we're exhorted to run.
You know, sometimes Christians have a sort of a lethargic attitude to their Christian pathway.
Just to sort of let the hand hang down and we can rest in our boat and leave the oars to themselves and we'll finally gain the poor.
No, it's a race and it's sometimes a difficult race.
Well, if you're in a if you're in a strange place.
To use an illustration.
You come out to Los Angeles.
And are not acquainted with the.
System of highways and all, You may have a little difficulty.
But all how nice it would be if somebody that knew it intimately would meet you at the edge of it all, go before you, and leave you right through it.
It wouldn't be it upset. You wouldn't have any doubt or difficulty. You just follow the one before you go on through it, no matter how bad the maze may be.
While we are in a race.
And there are others that have run the wreck.
Millions of God's people have begun and gone on in the race. I won't say finished. They've ended.
The 11TH chapter gives a whole series.
Of those that live the path of faith, they live by faith.
But you know, there was something about every last one of them in the in the 11TH chapter of Hebrews. While they live by faith, they always broke down somewhere.
Even Abraham, the father of the faith, denied his own wife.
And in the time of trouble went down into Egypt and got into trouble.
Everyone of the Saints of God of all times had their weak spot, had their faith.
Need we say we each have ours?
And now, he says on the 12TH chapter, after reviewing those in their pathway of faith in the 11TH chapter.
Wherefore seeing we also were compassed about, was so great a cloud of witnesses, those that have run the race, all old, failing a time.
Wherefore, seeing we also accomplished about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight.
And sin, which does so easily, besetters. Now there are two things that might hinder us in the race.
And they're both mentioned here. The one is.
Weight a weight and the other is sin.
What to wait?
Well, we might ask some of these boys.
Play some of these games at school.
If they'd like to carry 50 lbs when they were trying to win a 50 yard back.
No, you wouldn't want to carry 50 lbs or try to carry any other number of pounds. You would get rid of everything that would be a hit.
00:45:04
Now our way is anything that's a hindrance in your Christian pathway.
Now what did we say to do? We'll just cast it off. Just lay it aside.
If you find that you're carrying something, that's a hindrance to your Christian pathway to your Christian progress.
You can say, well, this thing is an entrance to my running this race, to getting through this world of God's glory, so I'll drop it.
Let us lay aside every week.
Some way?
Suppose you have a habit that you feel is a hindrance to you as a Christian.
The cancer drop that for the Lord's glory.
Can't you drop that? It is a hindrance to your Christian pathway.
All. There are lots of things that may be weights to you.
Well then there's sin, Jew.
Oh, but what might be a weight to one might not be a weight to another, but it might become sin too, to go on with something with a vast conscience will.
Go further than just a week.
Or there are weights and there are sins that hinder us in our pathway. Now the apostle just speaks as though was his drought. Just lay him aside and let us run.
Well, we have that and.
Now the second verse here is the one I was speaking about a few moments ago, speaking in figure.
One that might meet you and lead you through a maze.
Looking steadfastly on Jesus. It should be all there is one in the way before it. We sometimes think there is but that one in the waist, which is footsteps of Mark.
Oh, he's marked the path through this world.
And he's gone on through.
There's one ahead of it all. There have been lots ahead, but they've been. They've had their failures, but there's been one ahead that's never failed.
Looking steadfastly on Jesus. Keep your eye on that one that ran the whole race from beginning to end without failure, without falling, and not only did he run it from beginning to end, but he's already attained the goal.
Go for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is sat down.
Who's attained the goal?
We have one in the in the waist before US1, in the wilderness before us, that every step that he tried was to God glory.
Now we've had Moses and Abraham and all these different ones brought before us in the previous chapter, but they were only partially faithful. Here is one I called your attention to the fact that that word our should be left out of the second verse, looking under Jesus, the author and finisher, or the beginner and completer of faith.
It's the whole path of faith, he began and completed it.
Without interruption and without failure.
All dear young Christians don't say the path is too hard.
There's been one in the race before that did it perfectly. I'm the one that was in the race before, has attained the goal. He's there now. It goes right back.
Not only so. He's up there to sucker you now you say, Lord, it's hard.
Lord, help me, Lord, give me strength to press off. Lord, give me the grace to drop the weight.
Give me grace to put aside the sin, anything that hinders me in the race. It isn't a question of right or wrong in weight.
But does it hinder my Christian path?
All we have that one on high to help them and we have that one on high.
Not only to succor it, but as the evidence that the race can be won. The race can be run to God's glory, for one is trodden and he's reached the goal. He's there now at the right hand.
All I present to you this afternoon, dear young people.
00:50:02
The importance of keeping your eye on Christ in glory and.
Christ in glory in the four places and the Epistles of the Hebrews is very important because in the Epistle to the Hebrews we're still seen in the wilderness, we're still pressing on to the goal, but we've had one run it before us. We have one that we can keep our eyes on.
We just follow him and we won't need much other instruction.
Would displease the Lord. How did he go through this thing? Keep your eye on him. Press on to the goal. He's already in pain.
Where is that stanza? There is but that one in the waist, which is footsteps of.
Mark 139. Thank you.
Might sing. Those two standards are 139 stands as three and four.
The brother started.
I commend that old hymn to you young people.
As a very practical.
Him full of precious truth.
For the wilderness.
Let us pray.

Remnant Truth

August 59 address by Ch Brown.
134.
We're not of the world which they step away.
We're not.
Realize.
We just sang this hymn and the 4th stanza.
Men, Mightiest Phones, Most feeble are we?
Yet, trembling before our great leader, they flee.
The Lord is our banner.
Battle is his, the weakest of Saints, more than conquer is.
Mid mightiest foes. Most feeble are weak.
I want to talk this afternoon.
00:05:02
On remnant truth.
For these last days.
We're living in a day when.
Man, I suppose, is more boastful than he ever was.
And his history?
God is allowing him to achieve certain goals.
God is just as it were, giving him rope.
So that he'll demonstrate justice how far he goes.
And his thoughts of independence of God and his Word.
I remember Mr. Potter used to remind us that when God judges a thing.
He doesn't judge it from its fizzling out.
Or when it's just developing?
But he judges it when it's full blown.
Everything is moving in the direction.
A man eventually setting himself up to be God.
Going to cast off all restraint.
It's amazing that.
Man can dress so far.
That he not only.
Would drift into such unbelief, but he actually wants to get along without God.
I esteemed a letter recently, a personal letter.
From a man whom I had known intimately.
In fact.
His family, that is, to his parents.
His father had been associated with my father when they were young men.
In their teens together, he was no stranger to me.
But I had lost track of him in a major.
But the Lord directed that we should get in touch with him again.
He had become quite a schooled man.
Had talked in several universities.
And now?
Up in years is older than the speaker.
He's retired.
I had in my possession a letter that he had written to me as a young man.
When he was coming under the influence.
Religious teaching, I say religious teaching. I do not say under the influence of the simple gospel.
But he came under the influence of religious teaching and.
Joined the church.
I had in my possession a letter he'd written.
So as an arrow shot at the venture, I sent the letter to him because I had heard that he had drifted far from God.
I received back from him the most astonishing letter. He's an intelligence man.
And he said that through the years he had come to the conclusion that the whole universe.
And always been here.
That the sun, moon and stars and galaxies of heaven had always been coursing through space.
They were eternal.
Wouldn't even give any kind of a God the credit for starting them out.
And that man emerged.
As an accident.
Somewhere in the bottom of the slime of the seed develop down through the middle millions of ages, and when he finishes his little span here, he goes back into eternal oblivion.
Now one can scarcely credit.
That a man possessed of the intelligence that that man has.
Could ever end up in such a dead end St. as that?
But that's where he is.
There's one thing I can tell him. Maybe I shall.
That is that.
His head through the years has turned infinite.
00:10:00
His conscience hasn't. Conscience never turns into them.
No. All the time that he's writing that letter, there's something.
Ticking down on the inside, that's telling him.
But there is a God he wishes there were not.
Someday he's going to meet him.
How many of such men have come down to their deathbed?
And they've had terrible, agonizing, awful death.
I was talking to.
A cousin.
She was telling me about sitting on the train.
And reading her Bible, she's a Christian.
And her seatmate said you're you're Christian, are you? She said yes, I am.
Then maybe you can help me out. I sure need help.
Well, Sir, I'll do what I can. She was only a young woman at the time.
What is it? You know I am an infidel.
I have a boy. I brought him up as an infidel.
I was brought up as an infidel. My father was an infant.
My father didn't even believe there was a God. He was an atheist.
I've been the same. I brought up my boy that way. 3 generations of it.
But he said, you know, the other day, just the other day.
My father died.
But I was at his bedside when he was dying, and he said just before he passed into eternity.
He reared up in bed.
And he screamed with a voice that he had left.
There is a God, There is a hell. I'm going there and you drop back then.
He said. That has taken me to the center. Can you help me out?
Well, she gave him the gospel as best she could.
I don't know that she ever saw the man in gas.
Infidelity may do a man to live by, but it's no good to die by.
Now young people.
You're exposed in your school life to refine infidelity.
You get it in the grade, you got it in your textbooks.
You get it as you go into high school.
You'll get it all through college.
Unless you happen to attend a school such as this one where infidelity is ruled out, but I'm speaking in general terms.
Satan is determined.
To turn this world into an infinite world.
He's going to get rid of God. He's going to get rid of the Son of God.
We're living in an age like that, and he's succeeding wonderfully.
It's very difficult to find textbooks today, or a set of encyclopedias.
That does not teach the ruinous doctrine of evidence.
Once you accept that, you throw away the brakes.
And God alone knows where you're going to end up.
No, you and I are called upon to acknowledge that we came from the hand of God.
Where his creatures?
Someday.
We must give an account of our sojourn here.
I'm supposed to be talking to Christian young people this afternoon.
But I wonder, is everybody here in this room say?
I don't believe any of us could answer that question.
But God knows. God knows on which side of the line you are.
Young woman the other day, just a very young woman.
Perhaps I should say a girl.
Said to her mother. How do you know you're saved? How do you find it out?
Well, my mother said, The word of God says without the confessed with thy mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead. Thou shalt be saved.
00:15:09
Well.
Is that what I want? I want to know that I'm saying our mother says there's it is, there it is. That's the way she left her.
And later on.
Called her mother and then pointed to something she'd written on a piece of paper and pinned up on the curtain.
He wrote on this piece of paper. I was saved at 10:30 and gave the date and signed her name.
So that sounded like a real transaction, didn't it?
How was she saying?
By believing the record that God gave of his Son.
I hope that you children here are taking these matters seriously, because you have souls you know as well as older people, and you need a savior. And you can be saved when you're of tender years.
I started by saying that we're living in the day of big things. Oh, yes.
You remember the Tower of Babel?
Man said it was going to build a car to reach the heaven and he actually tried it. Yes he did. He actually thought he was so stupid that he thought he could build a car to reach the heavens.
Well, we pity such stupidity.
But his man any less stupid now?
You think he's improved in his wisdom when he's spending billions of dollars to reach the moon and the moon is only a place for a takeoff from Mars.
And taking off from Mars, he goes on into the vast expanses of the heaven.
No man is taking himself seriously on that.
And yet the Word of God says, is the heaven, and the heaven of heavens are the Lord.
The earth has been given to the children of men.
But man is so under the power of Satanic delusion today.
But he says, in the words of a prominent scientist high up among the great men of the world today, he says man has a right to go anywhere in this universe he wants to.
How long is God going to tolerate such effrontery? Such.
Open rebellion against his will and his words.
There come the limit.
Every time that man is risen and his self-confidence.
He reaches a point where just as God said to the waves of the ocean thus far and no further.
God comes in with his judgment.
Oh yes, we're living in a day of big things.
And yet, spiritually. What kind of a day is it? Spiritually?
I don't say religiously, religiously. Do you know that over 60%?
Of the people in the United States.
Have a religious confession. Think of.
6 out of 10 men.
You see, walking down the street are connected with some kind of a religious confession.
But you go out on a cost.
On the street of any town, village or city anywhere in the United States, the 1St 10 people you'll see and ask them what they know.
About the Precious Blood of Christ.
The precious Blood of Christ as to what they have to say about it.
And O beloved, you know.
That is only rarely that you find one that.
That vows to the truth.
Of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
And yet that's the only salvation that God has for any of us.
Man is religious. He's becoming increasingly so.
And you know where we're going.
00:20:00
I'm using the words of those that are sponsoring the program when I say one world and one church.
One church and one world. That's where we're headed for. That's the most. That's the aim. We're getting together. We're going to have one world and one church.
Yes, let's agree. Let's agree. So we are.
But oh, what a world is going to be.
Now, if you're a Christian, if you're a member of Christ, it won't be while you're here. Oh no, that can't come while the church is here. You know this church. And I say the when I say church, I mean the church that we have in the bike.
As long as this Church is here, the members of Christ.
The born again Spirit and wealth believers.
As long as they are here.
There are thorn in the sides of the whirlings.
They hinder the development of things that would have developed long before this. The presence of the Spirit of God, dwelling in the church here in this world, is holding back the avalanche of awful darkness, infidelity, enthusiasm.
Going to envelope the whole world.
The presence of the church here, holding it back.
But one of these days there will be a summons.
There'll be a shock given.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be here in this building while this speaker is addressing you?
Hear the shout and have every seat in the place empty, everyone of us gone to meet the Lord in the air. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
All the world, they wouldn't shut any tears over it.
They draw a sigh of relief. Now we can have our way. We've got some rid of the Christians. We've gotten rid of the hindrance.
Yes. Then get rid of us. One of these days we'll be gone.
And then man can put into play these ambitions that he's been nursing for ages. He's moving on to the grand finales and grand climax.
When he's going to show just how apostate is part of it.
On the 2nd Psalm.
We find God, as it were, sitting by and watching all this kind of thing.
Might read a verse or two from the second Psalm.
Why do the nations, even our nations, rage?
And the people's imagine a vain thing. The kings of the earth set themselves.
And the rulers take counsel together against the Lord, against Jehovah.
And against his anointed at Christ saying.
Let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us.
Now what will God say?
Well, here it is.
He that sitteth in the heavens shall last.
The Lord shall have them in duration.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath and dexamethasone.
Yet have I accept my king. Upon my holy hill of Zion, I will declare the decree. The Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my son.
This day have I begotten me.
Asked of me, and I forgive thee the heathen, or the nations, for thine inheritance, and the uttermost heartedly earth for thy possession.
Not beloved that will never come to pass.
Still missionary effort.
Our dear brother Eric Smith gave us a lovely account of the way the Spirit of God has been working down in South America.
00:25:07
He told us about it yesterday.
How we rejoice to hear the good news.
But you know, he talked in terms of half dozens.
And.
20s thirties.
But, oh soft of the rear ground river.
Our nations with millions upon millions.
Soul it is from the gospel that's going out.
And bringing all men and submission to the will of God.
The thing that's going to bring this earth into submission upwardly to the will of God, it's.
Going to be the rod out of Zion.
But now I said I was going to talk to you on Remnant time.
Well, in Zephaniah.
The third verse.
And the third chapter.
And the 12TH verse.
I will also leave in the midst of being afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
Dear young people.
I can guarantee something to you.
My experience backs it up with lots more important.
The Word of God declared it.
And if you will trust yourself to the keeping power of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Through his Holy Spirit.
And will accept this book as the inspired word of God and as your guidebook.
Through your life down here.
Till you reach the glory above.
You'll never be in Vigos.
You'll never be LED captive by the deceiver.
But we're living in the days.
One, we can say war be to the man.
Who in self-confidence says I can find my way through?
You just become the placing of Satan.
Yes you do.
This man about whom I told you, whom I knew as a young man, we were teenagers together.
He became inflated.
With his ego.
With his learning and where has it landed?
Absolute spiritual darkness and despair. What he hasn't is much hope as some heathen in the heart of that exit. As far as he's looking farmers of the life to come to him is simply a step into eternal oblivious.
Oh, what does?
I will leave in the midst of being afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
Are you willing?
Just to trust your life, your whole life, everything that has to do with your life, are you willing to trust?
Into the.
Of your blessed Lord Jesus.
Are you willing to come to him and say now, Lord, what wilt thou have thee to do?
All that that's a blessed attitude to take.
And it's the only safe one that I know.
But you know, there are plenty of people that you're going to meet.
As you go on through life, they're going to tell you they have something better.
All they're going to tell you, that's old fashioned.
We don't do that way anymore. We're using our minds now.
You know how that mind will lead you.
It will lead you away from God. Why? Because we are enemies in our minds. It leads away from God. Why? Because we are enemies in our minds.
00:30:05
We are enemies in our mind that left more clever your mind.
The more clever your mind, the more sure you are to miss the way unless you bow to the will of God as is expressed in the word of God.
You know, if you have 10 men shooting in a mark with a gun, all using the same gun and the sights were out of line.
The man most sure to miss the mark would be the best marksman. Isn't that right? Yes, Sir.
He's a man be sure to miss because the sites were out of line.
The sights up here?
Out of line in things that have to do with God. We're enemies in our minds.
My wicked works were sold out to Satan.
We need a Savior. We need to come and put ourselves into His hands, body, soul and spirit.
Dashing to gently lead his whole and he'll do it all. I think of the happy people that I know. I know so many happy people.
I mean really happy.
Why are they happy?
Have Christ.
They've submitted. They've surrendered to him.
Happy people.
New part of the personal reference.
When we go to that nursing home in the morning.
As we do several times a week.
It's very sad.
To visit among those 45 agent ones there.
So most of them are so unhappy.
So unhappy.
It's really depressing.
But there's one dear soul there.
That has a smile.
It happened.
She is rejoicing. She is quoting the book.
Chapter after chapter.
Verses here and there, he's singing the hymns which have formed a part of her life for 60 years.
70 years.
Yes, well, why is she any different from the rest?
He's made Chrysler optimal.
She let the word of God have its way in her life.
And now in the evening, time comes when the shadows are fall.
There's a bright abiding blessings peace.
You know you can't die that way.
Unless there's been a measure of preparation for it in the life.
These things don't come about accidentally.
We can't live for the world.
And feast upon its pleasures and expect to lie down and die triumphantly. It doesn't work that way.
And across the loop.
There's a verse.
You know, I reminded you that we're living in a day, a big thing.
We like high-powered car.
Everything has to be big.
Yes, our friend and brother in Christ Letourneau.
Has built the greatest earth moving machines that have ever been constructed since man has been on the earth.
Tremendous affairs. You wonder how human brains could think out such a thing.
Big things.
The whole age in which we live is characterized by bigness.
Luke 1232.
Fear knocks little flocks.
It's your father's good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.
Little flop?
There's that word littlest.
You're not little fluff.
Or when you compare the number of God's children, I mean save born again, converted spirit in dwelt souls on the face of the earth today.
00:35:14
With the number of human beings there are, oh, what a little sloth they are.
A little flock.
Or God isn't talking in terms of big things in connection with the Church of God.
See what we have there, and.
Revelation 3.
In that wonderful address there to Philadelphia.
Revelation 3 verse 7.
To the Angel of the church in Philadelphia, right?
These things SAP needed fully even truth.
He was a toxicity of David.
Even opener.
Old man got it and shut it. And no man's openness.
I know thy works.
Behold, I have set before thee an open door.
And no man can shut.
For thou hast a little strength.
And kept my word and not denied my name. There's that word little again.
And yet in the addresses to the seven churches.
Outside of the address to Smyrna, which was the marker period of the Church's history.
And all the other periods.
The Lord points out serious discrepancies in their testimony.
But in this little Philadelphia?
He raises no fall.
Thou hast a little strength.
And has kept my word, not denied my name.
Well, that's not going to make a very great impression, is it?
Level strikes, What have they done? Have they evangelized the world? Have they brought it about a great ecumenical system?
Have been gathered together all the various segments.
Pressing them into one grand concession.
No, they have a little strength and hardly use this.
To keep his word and not deny his name.
Now young folks.
I hope you won't despise your heritage.
By the truth.
And sell it not.
One of the most painful things that some of us older ones will have to witness.
Is seeing those who once knew the truth.
They were brought up in it.
Perhaps they've heard talks just like I'm getting to you.
They've heard these truths.
And then something came in.
And they sold out.
Sold out.
Where are we today?
Well, some of them are out of the world of sin, out on the highway of sin.
Others haven't gone that far astray. Some of them.
Are in the higher places ecclesiastically.
They have mounted to the top of the ladder or near the top, near the top.
And the rating of their fellow man they have become.
Well known ecclesiastical leaders.
I wonder, are they as happy in their souls as when they used to know the truth?
And sit in the little meeting where Christ was ministered.
Where Christ was everything.
I have a little pamphlet in my library at home.
The name of it is. What is it to be gathered to the Lord's name?
00:40:00
Simple little thing, just I would say maybe 8 pages of stark little thing you could lead to and perhaps 5 minutes.
It was written to establish young believers in the truth of being gathered to the Lord's nations.
The man that wrote that pamphlet became ambitious.
There wasn't much of A future for him.
Among the little companies gathered to the Lord's name.
It's pretty hard to become anybody very big.
In that little flock.
So he got.
Bigger, bigger.
If you can use that word in his own estimation.
And finally, he just stepped out entirely and he became quite a prominent man in Christmas.
I sat down and wrote him a letter one day. I'd known him intimately, knowing, just like I know some of you brothers, that I've known connection with the Lord's work.
I said, brother, I have that little pamphlet.
And I've been trying to walk according to the truth.
Because that little pamphlet tells me.
That the word of God provides A pathway through the confusion of Christendom.
And it's my privilege as a child of God to accept that pathway.
And go on in that pathway till the Lord comes and takes me home to heaven.
I said I'm still there.
I wanted to write me a letter, and I want you to tell me if you think I'm making a mistake in staying in that place.
Well, when do you think he wrote me?
Or I think you've guessed it already, he wrote me nothing.
What could the man say? The pamphlet was the truth of God.
The pamphlet directed me to the word of God, and the will of God is expressed in his words.
And how could he who had become a great religious leader and teacher? How can he write back and tell me to disregard the pamphlet that it was all wrong or he didn't?
No, he couldn't. His conscience.
Hadn't gone with his feet.
Conscience hadn't gone with his feet.
Oh, how how blessed it is.
My young brethren here.
What a blessed thing it is.
If you can go on in your Christian life.
With that sweet inner consciousness.
That you're in a path that's pleading to the law.
But don't ever expect it to be a popular fact.
I've debated this matter a great deal in my own heart.
I cannot see anywhere in the word of God.
That there is provision made for a popular brand of Christianity.
I can't find anywhere in the word of God.
That a popular Christ was ever preached.
I can't find that there's any promise of a pathway given in scripture.
Where we can follow a rejected Christ, a rejected Christ.
And be popular with the world.
Now this month in Des Moines.
We have our State Fair.
Happens every year out of the fairgrounds.
You know, I was amazed, and perhaps I didn't say so much. Amazed as greed.
The other day when I saw the great glaring billboards.
Announcing that fair and what do you think the chief attraction is, the thing that's going to get people to come there?
Why the man and his wife?
Who are great Rodeo Great rodeo performers?
And yet those two names are magic today in the fundamentalist world.
Those two names are magic among fundamentalists.
00:45:02
Outstanding characters and supposedly leading young people to Christ.
I don't say that they haven't bled anyone, but Christ, I'm not saying that.
But all can we imagine? The Lord Jesus Christ.
The Rejected 1 Putting his sanction upon an ungodly radio rodeo and on godly rodeo held as a public entertainment.
With all sorts of rough characters gathered from here and there.
And we conceive of the Lord Jesus putting his sanction on such an unholy mixture of that.
All were living in strange days.
Do you want a clean pass for your people?
Do you want to be able to stand before the Lord Jesus in that coming day and say, well Lord?
I tried to submit to thy word.
I tried to find the path through the confusion that had the sanction of thy blessed words, but, Lord, I'm afraid I didn't accomplish much.
I didn't write my name very high on the scale of human estimation.
I had a more or less humble and unseen and unsung life.
You know there's a man bearing over in England.
He has a modest tombstone.
And on that two stone is engraved.
This verse has unknown, yet well known.
Unknown where.
In the world.
I suppose you can pick up some of the encyclopedias of this world, and you couldn't find the man's name mentioned that.
Unknown.
Yet well known up there.
Ah, that man.
Michael used of God in the blessing of God's people, and you and I, in these meetings that we've been having here during this conference have been reaping in our own souls the blessing that was opened up to us.
Through that man, having redone the old wells, was the Philistines that filled up a rubbish.
He went right down to the bottom, down to the nice fresh water.
Again we were able to drink of the truth just as it came from the hands of the apostles at the start.
And yet in this world.
English unknown.
Was well known up there.
Oh, where do we want to raise it?
Down here. Up there.
If you go to the library.
There's a book. There's gotten to be a fat one now. It used to be some big when I was a young person.
Big 6 Fat Pile now.
Who's who in America?
Would you like to have your name in there?
Well, there's a way to go about it, to know you're young.
You're young.
You can set your goal. You can do what the world stands. Hit your wagon to a star. Maybe you can get your name in there someday.
Who's who in America?
But all beloved.
Oh, how much better to have your name written in the Lamb's book of life.
And hear him say in that coming day.
Well done.
Good and faithful, servant, faithful not successful.
Although that word's only used once in the Bible, that word success.
Have you made a success of it?
Oh, what a word that is in the world. Success.
No, only once in the Bible do you get that word.
And there in connection with obeying the will of God.
00:50:03
Well done, good and faithful servant.
What constitutes a man's face?
While doing what God was asking to do.
You hire a man to work for you.
And you leave them in charge of the job.
You say I'm going to be gone now for a couple of weeks.
And I wanted to paint the house.
No. All right. Yes, you'll paint the house while you're lost.
And you come back.
And if you drive up towards your place.
Doesn't look a bit better when you laugh.
He said. Well, I guess the man didn't show up after all.
I guess he he didn't like his contract. He didn't show up.
But you drive up to the front door and.
Now the man comes to meet you all, the big smile on his face.
But you're not smiling.
You say. What have you been doing?
But look out there in the back, I built a new garage.
A new garage.
Why, man, is that what I asked you to do? Lord, wasn't what I what you asked me to do. But I thought that you needed a new garage, so I just built your new garage.
You think you'd be pleased with a situation like that?
All you'd be wanted, you'd be legally warranted and letting that man go with no pay at all. And if he wanted to carry it still further, you could take him to the court and you could have that garage torn down and moved away.
He didn't do what he told him to do. Building a garage is a good thing. Yet. That's all right. Build a garage.
But that isn't what you're hiding for and beloved Saints of God.
Here is where you and I find out what God wants us to do right here.
And don't let anyone come along and tell you what now. You'll get greater results if you do it this way.
Let me repeat something that I suppose perhaps some of you are tired of hearing me say.
But I want to leave it with you anyhow.
God does not hold us responsible to get results.
Don't forget that.
God does not hold us responsible to get results.
He holds us responsible to preach Christ and to live Christ.
That's our responsibility.
But all this?
This mistaken idea.
That you've got to accomplish something that you can point to and say now that's the result that I did that.
And perhaps the system that you're connected with demands that you produce something.
Brother, McMillan was telling me.
Of a friend of his, a Baptist preacher.
That took over a certain church. They hired him.
And after he's been there a year, they had fifty members less than they had when he took it over.
Well, he was counted as worthless. No one wanted to hire him again.
By 50 members, less after a year's work.
Well, why was?
Why? The man found that he had a church membership and composed of a good share of unsaved people that didn't know what the gospel was.
And he was trying to preach Christ to them so they can bring them into the presence of God and get this whole saves.
And the pressure was too great when they got out.
All God wants us to be true to His Word.
Let's turn to that versus once more there in Zephaniah.
That 12TH verse I will leave in the midst of the an afflicted and poor people.
00:55:00
And they shall trust in the name, in the name of the Lord.
Beloved, let's surrender to it.
Let's just give ourselves over. I want to glorify the name of my Lord in this world. I want to do His will.
It's marked out in the world.
Find the pathway right through to the end. It's all here.
But remember if you do.
You'll be in the little flock.
The little block I believe in the midst of thee, and afflicted and poor people.
Thou hast the literal strength.
And has kept my word and not denied my name. Are we willing to do it? Are we willing to face it? And we're willing to surrender to it or our beseech you make your decision today?
Cast in your loss through the will of God and ask to be nothing.
That Christ beneath magnified in your body, whether by life or by death, shall we pray.
