(rib). Often used as border or boundary (Judg. 11:20²⁰But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel. (Judges 11:20); 1 Sam. 5:6⁶But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof. (1 Samuel 5:6); Matt. 8:34³⁴And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts. (Matthew 8:34)).

A term in scripture signifying any “border,” inland as well as near the sea, it also may imply large districts (Ex. 10:4⁴Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: (Exodus 10:4); Josh. 1:4⁴From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.
