The Old Testament gradually leads up to the New. But without the fuller revelation which the New Testament imparts, it is impossible to comprehend the purpose or meaning of the ancient " oracles of God." The scribe instructed to the kingdom of heaven brings out of his treasure things new and old.1 The manifestation of God through the Christian scriptures, and in the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ, is the elucidation and the complement of all contained in the Old Testament. The law, which came by Moses, was Israel's tutor up to Christ. Not only the law, but the prophets were until John. It is the spirit of the law which pervades the Old Testament ** but Christ Himself is the solution of every problem contained in it. By Him came grace and truth: the freshness and power of love and light together characterize the New Testament.
