GEN 37:21-22²¹And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. ²²And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. (Genesis 37:21‑22)

Reuben . . . said, Let us not kill him. . . . Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit . . . and lay no hand upon him.

At least one of the brothers had a conscience about what they were planning. It would seem that Reu-ben must not have been in on the original plot but found out about it later. Reuben was making up a plan to save Joseph. But it didn’t work out, as we shall see, at least not the way Reuben wanted. One lesson here that we need to learn is that if you find yourself against a group plan that you can see will lead to sinful behavior - stand against it - be verbal. Don’t be ashamed to stand up for what is right against what is wrong. We need more people with the courage of Reuben.
