V.21-22 One goat died as a sacrifice (vvs. 8-9). The other was called the scapegoat. On its head, Aaron laid both his hands, and confessed over the live goat all the people’s sins. The live goat carried away into the wilderness all the sins, and was seen no more. Christ is seen in both goats. The dead goat is a picture of Christ’s death. The other goat is a picture of our sins carried away by Christ, never to be remembered again by God.
V.23-24 The work of the atonement is finished, so Aaron is told to take off those special garments. Meaning? The Lord is doing different things for us in heaven. The change of clothes would tell us of His changing work.
V.25-28 Everything was done carefully and all speaks to us of the perfection of the work of God.
V.29-31 The day of atonement, on the 10th day of the seventh month, is a picture of when Israel as a nation, shall receive the new covenant, when the national shall be “born again.” (Read carefully Heb. 10:16-22; 8:10-1316This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. 18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. 19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21And having an high priest over the house of God; 22Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:16‑22)
10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. 13In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. (Hebrews 8:10‑13)). Meaning? Wonderful for that nation which today is scattered, confused and frustrated.
