A voice from heaven . . . This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Early in the Lord’s public ministry, God proclaims His delight in His Son with a voice from heaven. Here was One who was altogether pleasing to God. Jesus had volunteered to come to earth to redeem man. And God was well-pleased with Him. That’s what makes the story of the cross so remarkable. God, who proclaimed more than once His pleasure in His Son, actually punished Him for our sins, even though He had never sinned Himself.
