Do You Value the World With Its Pleasures and Joys

 •  1 min. read  •  grade level: 8

Do you value the world with its pleasures and joys,
With its riches, its honors, its fame,
More than Christ, and the joys that in Him can he found
In the sweetness and worth of His name?
If it's true you have chosen this world and not Christ,
Those pleasures that last for a day,
This choice will but lead you to sorrow and shame;
Far from God you are going astray.
It may be you say, "I'll have Christ AND the world,"
But this you will find cannot be;
A friend of the world is a foe unto God,
And these two can never agree.
O Christian, be loyal, be true to His word,
Let your light for your Saviour be bright,
The world lies in darkness, is far, far from God,
But you are a child of the light.
This world knows not God, and is lying in sin,
Is a foe both to Christ and to God,
Then Christian be faithful, whole hearted and true,
And walk in the light of His word.
Let your object be Christ in whatever you do,
Make His interests your only delight,
Follow hard in the path He has marked in His word,
Till with Him in those mansions of light.
