When Naaman arrived at the King of Israel’s house with the letter from the King of Syria, the King became very upset. He knew that he was unable to cure Naaman’s awful disease even though Naaman had a lot of money to pay for the cure. The King of Israel thought that Naaman had come to him with this impossible request so that the King of Syria would have an excuse to start a war with Israel.
Elisha the prophet heard what happened and sent a message to the King telling him to send Naaman to his house and he would be healed. But when Naaman came to Elisha’s house a very strange thing happened. Elisha did not even come to meet the great man. He just sent a message telling the general to go to the river of Jordan and wash himself in it seven times. Then he would be healed.
Naaman got angry and wouldn’t obey! Perhaps his pride was hurt because he thought that Elisha would do some wonderful miracle to him in order to heal the disease. Finally, the servants of Naaman pleaded with him to obey the message of the prophet. When Naaman obeyed he was immediately healed and became a true believer in the God of Israel.
