Twenty Three Thousand Sins<\/div><\/div>\nDan greeted the visiting evangelist with a challenging smile. \u201cI\u2019m not so bad,\u201d he said. \u201cI must admit one little slip, when I got into trouble with the police, but I can show you a pile of reward books which I got for attendance and good conduct at Sunday school! Then I went to Bible class, and later attended church pretty regularly. Not too bad!\u201d
\n\u201cHow old are you?\u201d asked the Christian.
\n\u201cTwenty-three.\u201d
\n\u201cNow listen,\u201d said the other. \u201cWon\u2019t you admit that few days have passed that you haven\u2019t had a foolish thought? God\u2019s Word says: The thought of foolishness is sin. Have you also said silly things?\u201d
\n\u201cWell, of course!\u201d
\n\u201cThe Lord Jesus Christ said that, \u2018Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.\u2019 Do you sometimes tell lies, or break laws, or lose your temper?\u201d
\n\u201cEvery day!\u201d
\n\u201cYou have admitted three sins a day; this means that on the lowest average you have committed no less than one thousand a year. On your own confession, you stand convicted of twenty-three thousand sins!\u201d
\nDan\u2019s smile was gone now. Seriously, he asked, \u201cWhat can I do?\u201d
\n\u201cYou can do nothing but to take a sinner\u2019s place and claim the sinner\u2019s Saviour. Then you may be sure that \u2018the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.\u2019\u201d There and then Dan, a convicted sinner, trusted the Saviour and rejoiced in the certainty of sins forgiven.
\nUse the same method the evangelist used with Dan. Try to add up your sins. It will give you a very faint idea of your own guilt and show you how impossible it is to make yourself right with God.
\nThank God, what you never could do the Lord Jesus has done. \u201cIT IS FINISHED!\u201d was His dying cry. Redemption has been accomplished. Faith in a once-crucified, now-risen Saviour secures eternal blessing for you, \u201cfor if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved\u201d (Romans 10:9).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
