IT is evening, and the old lady has come down by the fence to watch for her husband coming up from the fields. The turkeys are picking up a few last mouthfuls before going to roost, and the sun is casting long, long shadows across the grass.
The old lady is thinking. She has had her joys and sorrows too, as every old lady has. Perhaps she had little boys and girls like you who played
among the trees years ago, but now it is sunset and autumn-time, and her hair is silvery white. What do you suppose she is thinking about?
It will not be long before the long, long shadows have grown so big that they fill her garden with nothing else but shadows, and then it will be night. I wonder if, as she walks home in the twilight, she can think of this happy little hymn:
" 'Tis all sunshine there, Lord,
No sighing nor care, Lord,
But glory so fair at Thy coming again!"
You see, there are no shadows in heaven at all, and no sun to go down at night. The Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God, is the light of heaven, and He leaves no corner in darkness. In His light, every spot of sin shows up plainly, and that is why He says, "There shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth," ("anything that defileth" means anything unclean.) Not one unclean sin will be allowed in the light of God's presence in heaven. How wonderful to know that our God is ready to forgive you now, through His Son Jesus. "Through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins." Acts 13:3838Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: (Acts 13:38). Not all the light of heaven can show up one sin on a child whom God has "justified from all things."
It is not all sunshine here, is it children? Many a day God sends pouring rain when we plan a picnic outdoors. God wants to remind us, even when we are small, that our rest is in heaven, our rest is not here. We hope that, even on the rainiest days, you can sing that happy little hymn about the sunshine in heaven, and know that that joy will be yours forever, -when the Lord Jesus comes for His own.
