The above verse is probably the best definition of faith in the Scriptures. This is faith! Faith takes God at His word without Question. Faith believes! In fact the two words are synonymous, you cannot separate them. Faith believes—trusts—when there is nothing left to do but trust. Faith is a gift..."For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:88For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8).
The Christian has an unfailing, divine person to trust in. Unlike those of our acquaintances, here in this world, this person is always worthy of our faith and confidence. He will never let us down...never! He is the Lord Jesus Christ! We have put our faith in Him for salvation, now can we not trust Him for every step of our pathway...for every circumstance that He allows in our life? "For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:77(For we walk by faith, not by sight:) (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Faith counts on God for the next step, acting on the light of Scripture. "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105105NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)
There is always light for the way! Never is faith a leap in the dark. And never does the Bible speak of blind faith. And too, faith always has an object, an eye to the future. It is true that, "Abraham...went out, not knowing whither he went." Hebrews 11:88By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. (Hebrews 11:8). But we also read, "For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God" Verse 10. Every one of those listed in this chapter, who lived by faith against all kinds of odds and difficulties, had an object. Christ and glory are the believers object, and we can press on by faith only as we have this before our souls in reality.
"Looking steadfastly on Jesus the leader and completer of faith."
Learn to trust! He has promised a reward for those that simply trust, who have full confidence in Himself, who lean on Him, believing that He is doing the best in everything.
"Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward."
Faith is a perfect confidence,
God's Word it rightly claims;
Believing, trusting, wavers not,
But every promise names.
We do not walk by sight, to faith,
The path is clearly seen;
Scripture our guide, our only light,
A full resource has been.
