Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity [or, love], I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Here we have a real fake in action. A man may indeed be able to give the most wonderful exposition on a scripture, but if in that person we see or feel no love for his audience, the effect of the discourse is lost. It really was pretty much a waste of time. When the Lord Jesus spoke, the crowds couldn’t get enough. Why? Because the Lord showed in His manner that underneath was a large heart full of love for His people. And so His words had power. Giving a speech is one thing; living your speech is quite another.
