I suppose we have all been in a cemetery at some time or other, and have looked at the gravestones. Some of them are large while others are very small. Underneath each one of these stones, someone has been buried, and their name is usually engraved on the stone, with the date of their birth and also of their death.
Now there is a very unusual gravestone in Evergreen Cemetery near New York, and the only word on it is “Forgiven”. What a wonderful word that is! The name of the person buried there is not known, but the Lord knows it, and if they died trusting in the Lord Jesus, their name is written in heaven.
If you die, it won’t matter very much what kind or size of stone is put over your grave. The one important question will be—Were you saved? Were your sins forgiven? You may be kind and love your father and mother, which is very nice, but that won’t put your sins away. There is only one thing that will remove your sins. It is the blood of Jesus. ‘Do you know Him as your Saviour now, for if you die without Him you will be lost forever. “In whom (Christ) we have redemption through His blood even the forgiveness of sins” (Col. 1:1414In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Colossians 1:14)).
