No man remembered that same poor man.
How soon an entire city forgot the only person there who had saved them from an enemy attack. The same way, how soon we forget the one person who has saved us, not by His strategy or force but by giving His own life and dying for us. Jesus anticipated this and so He asked us to remember Him as often as we can by eating of a loaf of bread and drinking from a cup of wine, symbols of His body and His blood. Let us never forget the death of our Savior.
